Picked one up now looking at what stall converter I should run with this setup. I currently have a 10 LU 3000 stall converter.

you have more than enough w/3000 that thing sould spoolup like mad!have read posts of 66bb running 2800.

I have a 6157bb which I believe is the same thing as the 6131 more or less. I drove around with that on my stock longblock and a d5 which was a good combo, but could have possibly stood to be a tad looser. I now run a 10" 2800 ptc n/l which makes the car absolutely rip, full boost is useless in 1st gear on mickey thompson dr's and half of 2nd gear is the same. A 3000 rpm converter with that turbo is going to be much looser than necessary but probably alot of fun. I'm even contemplating tightening up my stall just slightly to soften the hit on the tires down low.

My son's car has that combo and the turbo spools like crazy  You could probably get away with a little less stall.

What cam? Id be more concerned about overpowering the converter when cranking it up than it no spooling well

I may sell the converter and go with a tighter 2800 converter. Or selling the turbo and go 6776dbb

Bison I am still running a 212/212 flat tappet. And I have pretty much every supporting mod you can run on a girddled 109 block with rods and pistons. The turbo has a .63 ar exhaust and a garrett compressor housing (s)

I want to stay street car high 10's tops mid 11's fairly easy.

What do you guys think?

Something that stalls 2400-2800 at 0# is plenty for that combo. Like has been mentioned. The 2400 will work well although most are afraid to try a converter with that low of a stall rating.

The stock D5 is around 1600-1800 just for reference.

Dusty I have a 10" NLU that I bought from you last year that was in my friends car this season it's a 3000 stall If I switch to the 6776RS I would most likely go back to this converter.

If I decied to keep the 6131RS at 17-20psi on the 3000 10" ppc LU converter which has to be foot braked to 3000 stall. Would you say this would be too much to try for half a season.

Trans has not been assembled yet was planning on staying lock up unless I do the switch.

Thanks Brandon!

The 3000 stall will work with the 6776 but if you plan on running that turbo hard, it can overpower the 10" converter. The 3000 stall will spool the 6131 VERY fast and it will work at that boost level.

Id keep the same turbo and run a 2400 10" PTC for easy mid 11's. 6131 BB with a .63 Garrett may only need a 2200 10". A D5 wouldnt even be unacceptable if it was loosened a little.

Thanks dusty and bison

I think I will just run this turbo with my converter and switch the converter out mid season to what dusty recomends at that time and turn the boost up.

Just gather some data. Mainly your rpm stall at 0-1# of boost. We can go over your data and what you'd like to change about your current converter, then get you something that will do what you want.

Also like to add, a local today at the track went 7.20 at 100 mph to the 1/8 with a journal bearing 6131 and a 2800 stall. Leaving at 4-5# off the footbrake and running 20#.

Sounds like a plan.

7.2@100mph 1/8th should be good for mid 11's easy at 20psi, on a journal bearing is pretty impressive.

I will gather all the data and get back to you. Will I lose anything keeping the lock up?

I think this turbo has the capability to provide everything I am looking for.

Swapping to something like the 9.5 non lock will gain some spooling and will see lower slip%.

There isn't anything to gain other than weight if swapping from a 10" lock-up to a 10" non lock.

That sounds great, was this a 10 or 9.5 inch?

What other mods did they have?
