As some of you know I designed and sell a new type of UCA for Mustangs that alters the control arm geometry. Well I now have a set on a Mustang that will be gunning for 7’s @180mph on DR’s. Currently the “unofficial” record is 8.3’s @ 170 but this car can’t 60’ worth a crap (1.60). I fully expect this car to pull 1.3’s when tuned and since this car has already made 1200hp to the tires on a conservative tune it has GREAT potential to run 7’s. Shakedown runs last weekend were very promising but the engine tune needs changed to get it to launch and stay hooked.
I’m really excited about this project and I hope to see the car run in Ohio next weekend..:D

I just wanted to pass on some of my good news…

Kevin,

Shoot me an email with more specific information.
I am considering going DR racing next couple years.
Troy Perez has gone 8.39 in a nova with BBC/NOS.
Biga Daddy has gone 8.4 and 170 with SBF/Turbo.

Yep, Paul is suppose to be there. This race kinda started as a grudge match between Dwayne and Paul and turned into a free for all..

I know Big D and Paul have both gone 8.36's but I can't remember the mphs. Pauls Supra out 60's Dwaynes Stang, 1.40 to 1.60. I also know there are some heavy hitters from the Chevy side but I haven't kept up with them to know what they run. I do know that there is at least one that runs 8.3/8.4's...

The $$$$$ is definitely up for grabs!!:D

ks:cool:

It really sounds like it is going to be an awesome event with a bunch of different fast drag radial cars...... Really wish I could be there to see it, but hopefully somebody can get some of the races on video and post them somewhere for all of us to see!

Too bad there isn't any fast (8 second) drag radial TRs out there to race with all of these other guys:(

Cal Hartline did run 9.34 @154mph on a drag radial which is pretty damn fast, but not at all fast enough to compete with the big boys..........

Tell me more about these control arms. I have a '88 Mustang with the stock suspension. It's got almost 160000 miles on it and I've been wanting to ugrade the suspension.

The race has come and gone. The winner is:
Paul Efantis and his Turbo'd 6 cyl Toyota Supra!! Paul was the most consistant player and while most everyone opened the event with 9.0's Paul's off the trailer 8.4 allowed him to sit back and wait while everyone played catchup.

The qualifying................
1.Paul Efantis.....8.490
2.Big Daddy.......8.836
3.Jim Fillipowski..8.867
4.Alex Vrettos.....8.875
5.Troy Pirez........8.884
6.Rick Head........8.895
7.Dan Forcucci....9.073
8.Micheal Dees....9.105 <-------My Man :)
9.Scott Chopin....9.370
10. Dave Rudisell..9.628
11.Paul kientz.....10.256
12.Christina Eldert..10.490
13.James Kursay....10.647
14.Audri Acton.......11.610

I do not have all the details but I was stunned to learn that TB.com's own Cal Hartline was THE MAN tuning the car that is running my suspension parts (Mike Dees)!!! Although the car was having problems getting any boost until the 150ft mark, when the boost did come on the car took off like a Patriot Misile and crossed the traps at 9.0's @ 169+mph!!
It was GREAT meeting Cal and he was patient enough to show me the workings of the F.A.S.T. system and how it works and I listened to see what his approach was on tuning the car.

There will be more events like this one coming!

Kevin,

I look foward to seeing what your boy can do with all the bugs worked out. Rick Head's Car has a lot more in it. That was it's second time at the track. That Supra is crazy!!!
I think drag radial is the next big thing!

Kevin, is Mike Dees Stang a black LX?? If so I saw this car at a track rental a while back (probably about 3 or 4 years ago) down here at Moroso and Cal was there tuning it..... If I remember correctly they weren't letting anybody see what the car was running, but it looked to be an 8 second car on slicks and it had a big single turbo..... At that track rental he made a few passes and then I think a fuel pump took a crap on him so he had to put it on the trailer...... Badass car to say the least!

Nope, it's red 2002. It's a brand new car built for this race and it just got finished up a few weeks ago. It only had 16 passes on it before they headed to Ohio from Orlando where Mike lives.

I have a few pics of it but they aren't that good.

Look for it at the Orlando Street Finals (?) in a few weeks. They are going to have a few more track rentals before then so hopefully they will have plenty of time to get the boost sorted out. On one of the passes last weekend it went 9.1 @ 155 with 17psi of boost and they normally run 30psi!

I agree! Dwayne Gutridge (Big Daddy) is already planning Drag Radial Wars II and a future Drag radial expansion to possibly allow all brands of cars.
I think I am going to try and keep my foot in the door of this class. It's going to be VERY EXCITING to see a car run low 8/7's on Drag Radials and I only saw high 9's / mid 8's last weekend.

Here's a quick summary if the link will work:

Interesting I guess he sold the black LX or maybe he still has it??

I'm sure once they get the boost sorted out it will really fly and could be a record setting car!!!

This just goes to show that you really need 2 Buick guys to make 1 Mustang fast:D ;)

ROLMAO!!

I hope to talk with Cal over the next week to see how things are progressing.

One thing that I just can't get over is how bad those chassis were on those fast cars!! Those cars are DANGEROUS!!! They bounce all over the place and unload the tires, etc.. Rick Heads Camaro was constantly boucing the front tires off the ground the entire 1/4 mile. The rearend was squatting so bad the tires were rubbing the fenders. Dwayne had to hammer the fenders and add air bags to stiffen the rear of the car so the tires wouldn't rub. In doing this his car was constantly lifting the front tires off the ground the entire track due to teh poor control arm geometry..
It's obvious that they just wanted to make horsepower and didn't care about setting up the chassis correctly. More than likely they don't know how.
I hope nobody gets hurt in those cars!!

Mikes car was so damn stable that I was very impressed with how the chassis was set up.. Spence Hart did a great job!

I know what you're saying!!! A LOT of these guys only worry about making power and don't think about the suspension and being safe!!! I can't imagine what it must feel like going 160+mph in the 1/4 bouncing all the way down the track:eek:

One word comes to mind.......

SCARY!!!!

Whats just as scary is that a lot of these guys will say that it is the horsepower that does it and that there's not much they can do about it...
I fully expect that over the winter several of the heavy hitters will redo thier chassis because DR is only going faster and they will want a better chassis for 170mph speeds..

Let's hope so Kevin because otherwise these guys with thick heads may end up hurt or worse!!!

Going fast is great, but being safe should always be the #1 priority.......

Brick,
Mike D's car is now a late model RED stang , best of everything , sweet ass machine. The black car which was bad ass too is gone. Cal has been the tuner for both cars and why both fly. Brian, a member of this board ,GN owner, and Mikes bud, did lotsa work on the car during build up and track outings.

The red car had unknown spooling issues while at the event. When this thing gets figured out it will run 175 mph easy.

A neat note. When boost finally came in about the 330 mark, the car would actually wheelie....all the way down there.Wish i could have been there, but i was getting the next best thing. Play by play via nextel;)

Louie, I have no doubt Cal is the reason both fly...... He is one helluva tuner and he seems to have his hands on many fast cars (kind of like Job Spetter Jr.)....... I will be at the big race at Orlando in October (World Street Nats) and look forward to seeing this badass drag radial Stang:cool:

When Buick guys help build/tune a Mustang everybody should watch out;) :D
