Mike's car kind of looks like this drag radial single turbo modular motor Stang that I've seen run down here at Moroso.... Here it is-------->

It's not as fast, but it still runs pretty good for a little 302ci motor:cool: Here are a couple more pics

John, I also want to thank you for being you:D

7's on a drag radial WILL happen!!!

Thanks for the Kudo's Kev. you taught me the basics and we tested the crap outta our theories with the drag radials on my car and then ran with it on Mikes car, I knew what geometry works, so we went right after that target from the get go. Big thanks for the relocation brackets too, without those they wouldnt have been as far ahead as they are now. Mike and Brian contacted me outta the clear blue, when they told me what they were doing I laughed and thought it was a joke, then I realized they were serious after they bought 90% of the suspension components from me....hehe. Glad I included in the build and glad you came on to give us guidence also.........

I wish I lived in Orlando so I can help get that 106mm working for them!! Even Cal thought more than once about puting it back on:D:D
I'll have to shoot him a PM about it. Between you, me and Cal I bet we can get that thing to HOOK with it...hehee..:D

Spence Hart gave me an update of the World Street Nationals in Orlando:
My guy, Mike Dees, went 8.29 @ 174 in 2nd round qualifying on DR's and they are STILL working out the bugs!!! This puts him at #1 qualifier!

Woohooo!!

That is freakin' insane!!!

ks:cool:

What kind of drag radials are they using and what's legal?

Oh, and where's Woody. ;)

Woody is right here....the cars on DR's would go MUCH faster on slicks.......they are optimized for the traction they get (obviously)

most folks don't want to spend the time & money to max out a specific racing class, but those that do, do well

I will take on any old GN on DR's as long as I have my slicks!:D

Woody I agree with you on this one.

Race cars should be on something sticky.

Your street car should be in street trim when racing, oh and be sorta fast. ;)

I don't really see the point of the class but I am sure they are all on the same tire whatever that may be. :)

IMO you race the DR classes for the same reason you race the 10.5" outlaw classes. Just to say you did it......

well, yeah...and I can understand the challenge of using a marginal tire to go fast....but that is all it is.....just something else to do

we all need something to do:)

You said it Woody....I know it keeps me from getting bored with my car.

Paul Efantis went 8.25 @170 this weekend also. Man, the race to the 7s is gettin' hot!!

I agree! Pauls car is beautiful and I hope he makes it also (he's my second vote:D) but I haven't seen enough MPH out of his car YET to believe that he can do it FIRST. I'm sure Mikes Stang has 177mph in it and maybe faster over some time. That turbo has 185mph potential in full race trim so for that reason I think Mike has the better chance. Paul MAY have a new motor in his Supra but I'm not sure. If so he still has more tuning to do so maybe he'll surprise us all!!
From what I have been told Mike may have been on a 8.1 run when the trans broke in elim's.:(

For tires, they run 315/60 to 325/50 and maybe something else..

ks:cool:

Kevin,

I read that Mike went 8.27 @ 183 with the 106mm turbo in testing. This was in Race Pages Magazine! I guess the 106 was too crazy so they put the 91 on. What was he using in Orlando?

He was on the 91 in Orlando. Apparently, the 106 spools quicker than the 91, and is simply too much for the tires at the moment :)

REALLY????? I haven't heard that.

Cal Hartline is doing a GREAT job at tuning that monster so maybe he'll chime in with some details. I do know that the 106 was VERY boost happy and hard to control early in the season so they switched to the 91. I don't know what he was using in Orlando but I guess he could have stepped up to the 106. After the DR race in Ohio (where he was using the 91mm) Cal and I were joking that the 106 could be put back on..

;)

Edit: I guess he was using the 91mm, then:D

Yeah I saw Mike Dees car run 8.29 @174mph this weekend with the 91mm turbo and I'm sure that thing has a 7 second run in it....... no doubt!

That Supra better up the spray cause Mike has his number:D

John, check your email:)

Wow. I never thought I would see this thread on a GN board.

I had a great weekend. Mike's car was #1 qualifier with the 8.29 and my other customer, Scott Hodges, was #9. Mike's car went the 8.29 on a "safe" tuneup. He actually pedalled the car around the 100' mark. I went back and made some changes and we had a much better pass going in eliminations when the input shaft broke on the shift.
I have the easy job of making (or taking away) the hp, Spence and Kevin are the guys who deserve the real credit.

Scott's car lost in the finals today. So, all in all, it was a pretty good weekend.

Woody: I will be more than happy to take you up on your offer to race ANY old GN on radials with yours on slicks. I managed a 9.54 @130 letting out just after the 1/8th this weekend. I enjoy running my car on radials. On the big end it is much more stable. The only hard part is the first 60'. Watch for an 8 second pass at Reynolds in 3 weeks.

Cal -

It was good seeing you again. Hopefully that motor of yours wasn't too hurt, and you'll have it back up in no time. Best of luck with the going's on we spoke about. If you decide you want to take a look at that alky kit after all, let me know. ;)

Hopefully, I'll be needing your assistance sometime after the Spring. ;)

- Matt
