Hi, to all :)

I just picked up a 84' Regal Somerset. Wondering if anyone can give me any info on it.

It resembles a Limited with pillow top seats and Limited door panels and such. Not in too bad of shape. Runs and shifts great!! Just needs some cosmetis things such as fillers, headliner, paint. Body is solid only minor rust on the bottom lips of the doors and underneath looks to be clean as well.

Thanks!!!

got any pics? what are you wanting to do with it? Draw thorough, Blow through, v8, N/A v6, we can help. If you need fillers go to gbodyparts.com they have a bunch of little misc buick trimmings.

Nice pickup congrat's on finding a Someset Regal they are kind of rare. I have an '84 Somerset Regal too, check out:http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/members-rides-friends-family/278085-here-84-regal-thread.html and http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/before-black-non-sfi-tech/294806-repeat-procedure.html

The Somerset Regal was an exterior/interior appearance package and it was applied to certain Two tone Regal Limited models to help jumpstart sales of the FWD Buick Somerset released in the following year '85.

Honestly, just found out a buddy had it for sale and I was in the market for a work car.... My 187,000 mile Escort had a tranny on the way out and did not want to put any money in it, so I said why not!!

Only had it a few days and the weather has been soooo cold I haven't been able to look it over real well. I drove it to work for the 1st time last night and it drives really good.

Hoping someone can help with this car!!

I have a problem with the heater. It would only get slightly warm and was told it probably needed a thermostat... So I unhooked some wire harnesses and vac hoses to the carb and moved the alternator off to the side. After installing the new thermostat i went to start the car to see if it would get warmer and the heat would not come on at all??? Don't see a prob with any fuses and I double checked all connections. Any idea where to go from here???? Thinking the heater valve might have been the problem, but don't want to replace it until I can get the heater to come back on!!

Thanks!!

The blower motor is still blowing right? I had major problems with mine that just happened all at once, so here is my solution:biggrin: Not good for DDing:rolleyes:

Follow the heater hoses from the firewall to the engine. There should be a vacuum operated valve splied into one fo them. Make sure it is opening and closing.

Ya, that vaccumm operated valve is what I was thinking too!! But, the blower is not coming on at all on low or high. The first time I put the new thermostat in it leaked at the seal while testing it. At that time the blower for the heater worked. When I moved the alternator out of the way to get better access resealed the therm hosing and went back to try it is when I had nothing

Check the fuse for the blower motor. If that's OK, put a volt meter on the electrical connector for the motor. If that tests out OK, get a new motor.

If the blower motor isnt working check the connections on the top of the blower motor under the hood. If its anything like the 85 there is a small ground wire that is attached to the chassis of the motor with a stake on connector. If that is corrodide or broken the motor will not run. I had that problem with my car. I cleaned it off, made sure it was nice a tight and I was good afterwards. Sometimes it not always a major project! It may have been on its way out and you just brushed it or something to make it loose contact.

Ya, I think it had to be something I did while working on the thermostat. I know exactly the connector you are talking about. Going to try that probably the day after X-MAS.... Thanks for the help and I will see how it goes!!!

Update: Sanded the little grounding connector under the hood and now have the blower motor coming on!! It has a new thermostat and new heater valve... Car is getting warmer than before, but still not as hot as it should be.. It's good enough to defrost the windows and warm the car somewhat... Guessing it must be a bad heater core. Air flow is strong on both defrost and floor.... Any more thoughts on this????
