Well i finally got my chips, computer,MAT installation kit and sensor. Im planning on changing everything over tomorrow. My question is i saw on gnttype.org where the guy said he had to change to 87 MAF after the weather got cold. Does the 85 MAF work fine during warm weather? Wil the car run really badly if i try to use the 85 MAF? Any info is appreciated.

when i did the conversion i used an 87 ecm, 85 maf, and a mat sensor. In the colder weather it would die and smoke black badly. I then switched to the 87 ecm and it runs great.
hope that helps

I believe the calibration of the 85 maf, being different than the 87 maf, can cause the car to run rich. You can run less fuel pressure to try and compensate. I switched to a LT1 maf and translator. Some people have continued to use the 85 maf without a problem.

So basically it may or may not work well, just depends on the car. Ill give it a shot with the 85 MAF since thats all ive got at the moment and hope for the best.

85 or 87 MAF

Me too.
When I converted my 85GN to 86/87 ECM/Coil/Module I continued to use the original MAF without any problems. Winter or summer as a daily driver. Eventually I did convert to LT1 MAF and translator to avoid pricey original replacement issues at a later date.

Yeah, was wanting to hold out and save up for that MAFTPRO and do away with the MAF completely. I got several things for the car but wanna make sure there's no electrical issues before i really start changing things. Got a TA48, set of 36# injectors, adjustable FPR, and Thrasher chip once i make sure everything's good.
