Hi!

One of my friends here in Sweden has started to think about to buy a GN.
He want´s a fast one......9.0-9.50.
Question is: Does any one of you know if it´s possible to have such a car and pass the emission test?
Emission test in Sweden demands a 3 way catalytic system.

Thanks for all answers!

Neal Stward in San Diego posted yesterday that his 10's car passed California emission test. Califorina test is pretty hard to pass.

Do a search and then you might be able to send him an e-mail.

Anything is possible with the right tuning. If the car is that quick, more than likely it will have a stand alone fuel management system that you can adjust the crap out of. Setting it up for a lean mixture will help. Then put on a good cat converter and make sure the coolant temp is good and HOT before testing. Driving the car to the test facility will help with that. In order for the cat converter to burn off correctly, it must reach a certain temp. Leaning out the fuel mixture making sure everyhting is hot should make that happen. These motors make tons of power, and when in a good state of tune, make very little bad emissions. I've heard of low 10 second cars passing with flying colors! Question is, will it pass the visual inspection???

Yes sir!

No problems here in Sweden with that!
You can have a 12 point cage in the car, 19" wide M/T, one seat, aluminium interior, flip front....yada yada you know, but all the lights, signals, odo and etc. must be functional.
They also do a brake test to see how the brakes are.
Looking for rust.....etc.
Then there is a strange system about the emission, cars before-88 has a higher limit on the emission than my -89 TTA.
One friend here in my hometown has a -71 Cuda with a 520" Hemi doing the quarter in 8.6sec. and car is full streetlegal.

So i guess that it should be easier to pass with a 86-87 GN than my -89 TTA.

Why is it that the thought that a lean condition helps cars go through emissions tests??? I see this all the time, and it's a false and mis leading statement. What a lean condition WILL do is raise HC's substantially and move to to a quicker fail mode!!

The most ideal A/F mixture (assuming the other smog parts are working properly) is a perfect stoiceometric 14.7:1

Lean burn and mis fires cause HIGH HydroCarbons (HC) NOT low.
