I'm looking for ways to make my A/C work better (converted to 134a, blows cold but can't really bring the temp of the whole car down in the sun)-

Has anyone put up either a heat shield or heat reflective / insulating tape on the A/C accumulator and cold lines and seen any improvement? My THDP heats up my A/C accumulator pretty good.

Also, is there a (late model or aftermarket) blower motor upgrade or hotwire to move more air across the evaporator? I seem to remember seeing something in Kirban's catalog a while back.

Any other suggestions/comments?
 
Do you still have the factory radiator fan? If so, I suggest you get a ramchargers dual fan. My AC is a new animal this year. Any other decent improvement would have to come from better components such as compressor and dual-pass condensor.
 
The more air you move the warmer it gets out the vents.

I would go for the upgraded condensor if you want to spend money on upgrading the system.

High temp. coating the downpipe may work some as well, but I have never tried it, and for the cost I would expect most of the gain would be in looks over heat control. ;)
 
I have searched for a high effeciency parallel flow condenser and came up with only unversial fit. Is there a company that makes a direct fit? The R-4 compressor is a good compressor. The weak spot in our airconditioner systems is the temperature under the hood. The turbo and downpipe create hight temps and thus inhibiting the ability of the condender to remove heat. The fin and tub condenser was OK for R-12 but 134a needs to remove more heat thus the need for a more efficient condenser. Our cars have no problem cooling the cabin at highway speed but when on the streets the it falls short. In any case wraping the Accumulator will help but the key is to move as much air as possible over the condenser and replacing it with a parallel flow will be even better.

The problem is the 134a. The AC system was designed for R-12. Yea people convert the freon but it is not the same. R-12 is still available but pricey. Take a drive up to Canada and smuggle some in :rolleyes: .
