A/C Questions (No Workie)

Had the car in the shop this morning, was told my compressor was leaking through the front seal I was quoted $1200 for a new compressor, dryer, orifice, labor and R12 and something else (dont have quote with me).

What has everyone else done? Get a new compressor, reman, etc. Would I need a new dryer and orifice? I'm nowhere knowledable enough on A/C parts/hands on.

Stick with a new Delco compressor. After 15 years it would be wise the change the dryer and orifice tube.

It is amazing how much some shops charge for A/C work in the summer especially in the desert. Shop around to check prices AND quality of work.

In the meantime, pick up a new Delco compressor yourself. Should be able to fine one $225-250.

I agree with Nick buy a new Delco compressor. I just redid the compressor, dryer, and orifce, plus converted to 134a in my blazer was around $150 for the parts. I bought a reman compressor and aftermarket parts, since we probably won't have the blazer much longer anyway. Works good for now. But if you are gonna keep it go Delco, new

Does any one have any web sites or recommendations for buying the parts I need? Are the Delco units available from local auto parts store (new)? Just never had to go and buy the parts on my own, thanks!


PS, Nick may be calling you soon for a new rad. Been seeing high numbers lately. Just want to double check things first.

A/C compressor

We have over 400 GM vehicles in our fleet, we have had good luck with GM reman compressors, but still not as good as new GM!,
R12 or R134?? you decide! there are thoughts either way,
I have R12 in mine, (only because I have a large bottle of R12)
Our cost for parts, stays constant year round, save for price increases, not so for freon, we buy in bulk quanity, as we have a total of 1500 vehicles in our fleet.
