After 25 years with 25 year old weather stripping T-Tops that was leaking bad

Was wanting to get some reviews and some comments on how bad my t-top section is on my 87 GN. I pulled all the old T-top pannels off down to the T-top frame area. I don't think it is that bad but again wanted to see what everyone thinks, I know I have seen alot worse. What I see is all surface rust with no popping bubbles. I was also looking for some pointers on what to use to get all the old sticky glue/adhesive off without hurting the metal,pant and just good pointers in general for re doing the t-top section with Gbodyparts t-top kit and the the other goods that go with it?

mine was worse than yours on passenger side, had to replace sheetmetal. Drivers side had some surface rust....cleaned it up ...treated with POR15... new weatherstripping should be good for 25 more years

Would you be able to give me some pointers on clean up before using that POR 15 rust paint? and to clean up the sticky adhesive and glue? To really prep the area and applying the POR 15 spray or brush ect?

thats nothing you are in good shape my friend. I had to cut and weld in metal all along the top of my drivers side. looks brand new now.

buy an adhesive remover at a hardware store. I picked up a 3M branded one. soak the shit out of the areas and let it sit for half an hour. it'll turn whitish then its time to start scraping. I used one of those little window knife scrapers where the blade just slides out about a quarter inch. go at it quite aggressive you're not going to damage the metal. wipe clean and respray the areas that are still a little sticky.

por-15 is a must. you're wasting you're time if you don't apply it. i bought a small can i applied with a brush.

the t-top component set i purchased was the complete stainless steel kit. i figured its worth the extra money and i know its not going to rust.

Agreed with above post. The adhesive remover is a must... other wise this task becomes much more time consuming. I used a scraper and a wire brush in areas. I wiped everything down with alcohol before applying por 15 and the weather stripping adhesive

Thank you guys, I have everything on order that I need I belive. T-top section, t-top weather stripping, New trim molding and the POR 15. I just have to run to the hardware store and get some adhesive remover and some adhesive glue for the weather stripping. Wish me luck 8)

Sorry for hijacking the thread but do you worry about the heat from the wastegate pipe melting something in the engine bay or is that not done yet

not done yet, im going to put a turn down on it and have it exit by the frame
