Alternator voltage rock steady 13.5
Will take the 8# sledge to the MAF and try it again tonite:D

Sorry Chuck I am a loser and dont have a Caspers tester (doesnt everyone?) I do have a spare coil pack that came with the car but it is completely unknown. Also it came with two of the coil pack plates (for lack of a better term). They are unknown also

I dont have a fuel pressure gauge :( (I just got this car two months ago. working on it) But will try to borrow one from my mechanic tonight. I dont think its fuel but your are correct it has to be checked.

Any other ways to check the MAF?

TesterZ?

No, not everyone has 1!!
Being a "loser" only comes when you have:
Lost your mind trying to figger these cars out.
Lost your wallet paying for the maintenence.
Lost your wife, because she thinks you are insane.

The "plates" are the modules that go under the coil paks.. They are the "brains" of the coils...
As for the MAF.. Try trading w/ another TR guy in your area.
HTH,

:D :D :D

Hey Bob, with that high of fuel pressure, you may be getting just a tad rich with the alky coming on. Do you have any O2 readings at WOT?
I had to back off the fuel pressure to 39psi vac off with the stock injectors, or the car would be way too rich.

My o2 numbers weren't too bad the few times I was able to test at WOT. I need an adjustable FPR and better gauge, and I will probably turn it down some. Need to get this missing problem fixed first.

Huffer, Also, try turning it on earlier (ok I don't completly agree with Chuck:)) I was flooding out the same as you, and moved the turn on point fron 16 to 12 psi. And turned the pump speed down a lot.

It's running better. High timing is still important...

Sounds like Bob either has a bad coil pack or the fuel pump is not supplying enuf fuel when the boost comes up. One cannot cure existing problems with an alky kit...if anything, they will be more obvious. Probably just coincidence that they started to show up with the increased alky boost.

Kinda stuff that happens to me all the time... :D

Every three guys need a Caspers Coil Tester! I have mine. :)

Four out of five dentists reccomend the Caspers unit.

I'm still waiting fot the fifth to cave in.

He's a stubborn SOB! :)

I don't have a whole lot to add to this thread but thought it was a good opportunity to say 'hi' to Chuck and other alky buds.

I will say that this thread did help me understand why my Ltd fell off the pace a little during this warmer weather (finally).

As Fall was creeping up on us and the weather was cooling off last year, I decided to try a 22* chip from my usual 24* chip and turn up the boost a little. I never made it out in really cool weather but the low 60s was good and the car picked up a little which is when I ran a best of 11.42 @ 119. That was with 25 - 26# boost.

The first time out this year with the 22* chip still in was at Norwalk on Friday during the Buick meet. The weather was in the 50s but with a strong head wind blowing right down the track. The car went 11.50s all day long but it was a tad sluggish in first gear. I did raise the boost point which helped.

This past weekend I got out and the weather was in the low 80s. The car about fell on its face in first gear and I kept playing with boost activation points. After reading this thread I should have probably put the 24* chip back in. I could play with the pump speed but there are enough things to do while making a pass without playing with the alky pump too! The best pass of the day was an 11.72 BTW.

So I am anxious to go back to the 24* chip in the warmer weather and maybe play with the pump speed. This thread turned on the ole' light bulb. Its all in the first 60' with these cars and being too rich don't help!

Thanks,

Hank

Steve I am sure you are right about the coincidence. I was blaming the alky system because every time it came on I was having problems. Hopefully when I get home tonight I will have a new coil pack, LT1 MAF and translator, and o2 sensor waiting for me:cool: (will install and test one at a time) and if I still have a problem I will be drinking the denatured I think

Thanks to all who replyed- Installed a Testa 100 octane chip and turned the boost up to about 21#- no hesitation with alky on at 12# and about half pump speed- what a difference-
Thanks again guys-
Dave

So Huffer, you left the turn-on point at 12 psi, and got a higher octane chip? Did you get the new plug wires on yet?

Could we say that the higher timing chip took care of the problem?

In case you are wondering, I'm still struggling with mine....:)

Hi Tim, I think you have someone else in mind. My wires are several years old and not a problem. My problem was the alcohol putting the fire out. I had to run the SMC at the lowest setting to prevent the stumbling. As to whether it was the higher timing chip or just raising the boost, I don't know, but something worked. I'll have to wait till I can get to the track (Atco or Maple Grove) for an objective evaluation. Car is too fast to try much on the street.
Thanks again,
Dave

Dang, Huffer, I'm sorry I was thinking of blackbuick87

Good to see that it appears that the high timing chip worked for you....

Still waiting for blackbuick to re-post and see how he is doing with his problem.

I think after all the headaches the problem turned out to be the O2 sensor. This was after replacing the coil pack, MAF, wires, plugs, changing FP, yada yada. The good news is the car has never run better

I thought the O2 was good because the cross counts were still going up. Well it would take about a minute to get to 255. Installed the AC Delco one and it hits 255 every 10 seconds now.

For the last week I have been at 16psi with no problems, so I decided to hook things up and give it another try. Last night I kept the boost moderate and was getting 20psi in 1st and 18psi in 2nd and 3rd with only .9* KR. This was with my RA93 chip, and the smallest jet. Hopefully I get my Thrasher 100 from Scott soon so I can use that

It does not matter how you got there...what counts is getting there! :)

Now you can hopefully start having some fun again.
