Guys I need ur opinions on the aquisition of a pet to my household. Im really not much of a dog guy but my 6 year old girl has been asking for a "doggy". As luck would have it my friend calls me and tells me the girl next door needs to find a home for her $1,000.00 mini doberman. 2 hours later I have this rat dog in my house at no cost (thank God), and my cat is not too thrilled about it. So whats the deal, am I less of a man for having such a tiny dog? Do I dare risk being seen in public walking this thing? Or should I put the lil guy on steroids and hope he grows?

Is a woman any less of a person than a man? Just kidding! I like those little things and if you ever want to get rid of it my boxer is always looking for a snack.

Just let your daughter take him on the leash when you're around. Just say (when other guys come around) that it's HER dog! I "prefere" bird dogs myself, but any dog is better than NO dog. It will bring much joy to your family (including you) I couldn't imagine a life with-out one or two. I have a Llewellin Setter and a Springer. Here's a pic of my dogs. (the one on the right died last year:( ) The Mini-dobies are kinda cool. They have the bad azz look, just in half pint size. The BEST part about having a tiny dog........is you never have to take it out to go "dookie" (had to use a "G" rated word here) All you have to do is hold it out the window............and SQUEEZE! If Half Pint has an "accident" on the carpet.....just tell your guests it's a Tootsie Roll your daughter left there after Halloween. Your food bill will also be MUCH less than mine. Speaking of which, don't skimp on dog food. Cheap stuff will KILL your dog. I used Atta-Boy for years and it dang near killed a Springer I had. After switching to Purina1 his health improved DRASTICALLY!!! They LOVED Atta-Boy, but I think it's made from cow ANUS and fecal berry punch or somethin' like that.

Mini Dobies? A real man's dog?

Hmmmmm. Well, I guess it depends on the owner. As long as you don't walk the dog while he's wearing one of thoses little knit sweaters, you should be ok. ;)

there have been studies about the correlation between the size of a mans dog and the size of his manhood. its okay to have a mini doberman...kee hee.

Size of dog and manhood

Yea, but it's not the dog in the fight. It's the fight in the, ummm:rolleyes: dog.

I'd say you already blew it with the cat :).

A couple of families in my 'hood have little rat dogs and when I see the dad's out walking them I chuckle to myself. It's gotta suck. But, I'd do the same thing if I were in your position. As fate would have it, though, we already had a cat and a dog (non-rat variety) when the kids were born. On the downside, the dog is going to kick the bucket when the kids are relatively young, which is going to be tough.

Anyway, having a family causes you to do lots of things that threaten your manhood. It's all in the interest of maintaining harmony in the family. I wouldn't sweat it. Once in a while I might put curlers in my hair and wear a pink robe when I walked the dog in the morning, just for fun.

One of my 10 bosses has a Chihuahua and he is almost 7 ft tall and weighs about 350!

hey it will give the cat someone to tourment while he is alone with him

Don’t sweat it. Through my wife (sexist disclaimer) I am heavily involved in the dog world. AKC, CKC, CPE…etc. I am at a dog event almost every week now since we opened our dog-centered business. I see almost every breed of dog at the weekend shows. I have seen many of the little guys like you have. There is nothing wrong with any breed of dog.

I recently saw my first miniature Husky and almost slit my wrists but I am better now.

I currently have 6 dogs (5 Siberian Huskies and 1 Border Collie) and while a ‘small’ dog would never be on my shopping list if it makes your daughter happy that’s all you need to worry about. Small dogs tend to live longer so she will be older when 'that time' comes.

If the previous owners paid 1k for the dog does it have papers? Is it of champion bloodlines? Maybe you could start showing the dog in AKC confirmation. Go rent “Best in Show”… Just don't watch the gay guys with the little dogs....

Many people think the little coats on small dogs are for looks but depending on where you live, your pup may need it to keep warm outside. Have a black and gray (two-tone) coat with the power 6 logo on it made.

As for dog food, my advice is to go to surf the web as there is a TON of information out there on the crap that goes into 95% of the commercial dog foods.

Example: “My dog food is better as it has meat in it”

Meat and Bone Meal - the rendered product from mammal tissues, including bone, exclusive of blood, hair, hoof, horn, hide trimmings, manure, stomach and rumen contents.

Taken from here: Dog Foods - Or What In The World Should I Buy?

Pretty much all the major brands like Purina are crap. Iams and Eukanuba are slightly better but if you really care about your dog a bag of food should cost about 40 bucks if not more.

We feed our dogs a diet referred to as BARF = Bones And Raw Food. Veterinarians are split on the benefits of this. Those that are pro say “your dogs are eating the same things you would or what they would eat in the wild minus the preservatives”. Those that are con say "your dog will get salmonella or e-coli”.

We have never had any illnesses from feeding raw meet, chicken necks/backs, oatmeal, fish…etc and our dogs all make it to 15 years old with no health issues while our friend’s dogs all die of cancer before they reach 10 (sorry for the unhappy thoughts).

So….does he/she have a name?

U guys are great.

The wife heard me laughing this morning and came over to find out what was going on, so I let her read this thread, and she liked the squeezing out the window and the Turbo6 suggestion. looks like we migt call him Turbo6 instead of Wrigley. Ill bet he can 60 ft. faster than the ricers around here.;) heres a couple of pics, hes 4 months old.

Yea that dog is pretty gay but...........It's still better than a cat....... Your alright.

Otto has cats..... Does that mean he's? :D

Nothing wrong with a small dog. In fact, since you have young kids, it's a far better idea than a large one. Plus, your neighbors won't be afraid to have their kids around it, you're less likely to get sued over the dog attacking someone/something, etc., etc., etc....

THAT'S NOT EVEN REMOTELY ACCURATE. I HAVE A 14 LB. MINI SCHNAUZER TOO ALONG WITH MY DOBE. THE SIZE OF ONES DOG HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHETHER OR NOT IT IS GOING TO BITE SOMEONE. PROPER TRAINING AND DISCIPLINE DICTATE HOW UR DOG WILL ACT AROUND OTHER PEOPLE. MY NEIGHBORS LOVE MY DOBE, OF COURSE THEY WOULD NOT WALK INTO MY HOUSE UNINVITED BUT THEY SHOULDN'T WALK INTO ANYONES HOUSE UNINVITED.

MY DOBERMAN CAN BE BROUGHT ANYWHERE AROUND ANYONE AND I HAVE 100% CONFIDENCE THAT HE WOULD NOT BITE SOMEONE UNLESS DIRECTED TO. MY MINI SCHNAUZER IS MORE APT TO NIBBLE ON SOMEONES ANKLE THEN MY DOBERMAN.

DOGS ARE LIKE KIDS. IF YOU RAISE THEM TO BE A$$HOLES THAT IS HOW THEY WILL LIKELY TURN OUT.

A LITTLE MIN PIN CAN SINK ITS TEETH INTO YOU LIKE ANY DOG CAN. IF YOU KEEP A DOG CAGED LIKED AN ANIMAL ALL DAY LONG OR OUTSIDE WHEN IT'S 115 DEGREES OR 10 BELOW ZERO YOU TOO WOULD BE MISERABLE AND APT TO BITE SOMEONE.

MIN PIN ARE GREAT PETS, BUT SO ARE FULL SIZE DOBES AND ANY OTHER FULL SIZE BREEDS IF TREATED CORRECTLY.

BIG DOGS BEING DANGEROUS IS JUST INNACURATE PROPAGANDA.

your still alright in my book.....;)
