About to replace the rear main seal, and several posts I have seen say to use an anaerobic sealant that doesn't need air to cure on the main caps. All 3 auto stores I went to tonight trying to find a cork pan gasket had never heard of this stuff.

So what is this anaerobic stuff and where do you get it? Brand name or anything...
Otherwise I'll use Ultra-Black, it that ok to use?

Loctite makes this I bought it from GB500 in NYC or Speedworld local NYC, this is specialty stuff and not cheap $5 gets you a little stick tube, or you can try a truck stop Ive seen them carry this as well pretty cool stuff stays wet and never dries out

Gm dealer will have it or can get it.

Tell the lazy asses in the AP store to look it up. BTW, it comes in GM 1.8OHC/2.0OHC head sets to seal the cam carrier to head joint. I think I have a small tube at work. If you hit a dead end, msg me your address, I'll send you the tube. Like I said, its a SMALL tube, I forget what it was for...most likely came in a head set I did at some point.

Permatex part# 51813, most any parts store should have it.

GM part# 1052943, most Caddy dealers should have it in stock for doing case-half re-seals.

Thanks for the offer Jim, and thanks NC for the Permatex part#. I'll give this a whirl if the Ultra-Black leaks. I went ahead and put it together last night with Ultra-Black, going to leave the pan off for a day or two. The GM stuff that was in there was what was leaking all over the place, it was not my seal once I got it apart the rope was dry, but the sealed up cavities had pockets of oil throughout.
So....my thinking was it didn't work for GM, with my luck it would have made no difference. Ulta-Black has always worked for me, and it seems to dry the entire tube up once opened without any air...so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
