I think I am more confused than before now;)

Mainly watch cable in HD on it but there will be some Blu Rays and my sons PS3 from time to time so I guess I need to take that into account as well...

Refresh rate, I know the higher the better but what is recommened for say BluRay?

I have my HD box and Blu Ray both connected using the HDMI cables.

Let me help you decide, get the 51" plasma from Sam's for $674 and be done with it! You cant beat the price or quality and you will love it! If you dont like it, take it back!!!

NewEgg.com is where I like to go for electronics. Good prices, pretty fair on return policy.

I did alot of research before I bought my TV for my basment movie room, ended up with a 60" LG Plasma, Love It, HD Sports are just awsome to watch now.
Would like to get mine calibrated to get an even better picture but costs about $250
Do not be affraid to buy a plasma, they use more electricity and run a little hotter but excellent picture and much better in moving scenes.

Try this:

LCD monitor test images

Start with getting good black and white.

LG and Panasonic plasmas seem to be good choices. LG also makes a good LCD...just depends on how much you want to spend. You might also make sure that whatever you buy has at least 2, perferably 3+ HDMI inputs.

LED looks great but probably not worth it. We have a 55" LCD, use the kids PS3 to watch BluRays and picture looks great. Tough to beat for the money right now.

I recently bought an LED/LCD Vizio 240 hz. After I got it home I wasn't thrilled with picture at all. Spent all night researching every review and comparison I could find. Bottom line, I determined that plasma was the way to go. Brought home a 58" samsung plasma and the picture is fantastic. Way better than the vizio I had, and much better than my Sony LCD. Some of the early issues with plasma have been corrected, even viewing in well lit rooms. Plus plasmas win HDTV shootouts every year.

i have a plasma and love it
its great when watching sports and movies
and BTW i have a Bright room and still works great
and don't forget about the kids and their finger prints and scratching tendencies. plasma have a glass face and the others have plastic faces.
Plasma = lower price + better picture
others = the opposite of the above
Good luck
