so i bought a 87 t type, tranny in it would not shift under wide open throttle, but if i backed off just the slightest bit it will shift. so i got a completely different fresh brand new built tranny and it is doing the exact same thing! we have adjusted the tv cable, checked for leaks and everything, i have no idea what to look for right now. any help would be very much appreciated.

You may be rpm limited. What rpm and speed are you reaching before you let go of the throttle? In what gear?

Under normal throttle it shifts by itself just fine without me having to back off. And under wot it won't shift until I let off in every gear. It will almost red line and the check engine light will come on

If you have a different unit in it now and its still the same...... I still think you have a TV problem. I would back the cable right off and drive it very easy. Go to a long open quiet road and do some low throttle upshifts, fine tuning the TV cable. When you think you have shifting well at normal throttle do some heavy throttle upshifts. It should shift late and firm. From my experience the factory GM TV cable is best. I broke mine and the thing has never been the same since.

You probably have a leak on the governor circuit if it's the same symptom in all gears or the vb/governor is not correct for the application

If I hold the pedal to the floor it will overrev my engine and won't shift at all until I let off just barely
