Just got back. It was amazingly dead at Norwalk today. The weather was great but the turnout was not. Could have made as many passes as you wanted and basically gone round and round. I made 5 passes and was not ready to race until about 11:30. Not sure why, the weather was predicted to be good today, rain tomorrow morning and early afternoon then Sunday should be nice again. Hopefully more will show up as the weekend continues.

Most of the fast cars were either shutting down early, and some sounded like they were breaking up before they let off. I saw afew mid to low 9's with them letting off. The track was alittle slick early, but seemed to get better later on.

TSM cars: I saw Jason White go 9.42, did not see Don Cruz make a pass but his car sure looks nice, there were a couple of other cars but I don't know the names. TSO: Only 3 cars today, Rich Rezes ran a personal best 9.02 and then had wheelie issues trying for that 8 :-), Ted A ran an 8.55 at almost 163, Chris Lyons ran an 8.78 and an 8.8x. Q16: Bob Armstrong ran a 9.48 as the alternator died (that's the initial diagnosis, tomorrow will tell)., at least 3 V8 cars were in the 8's. Other cars: there's a big-tired Vega with a turbo V6 (don't know if it's stock block or a stage motor) that was breaking up badly but still ran a low 10 at about 100 mph, the S10 big block Buick with the S10 STG 2 tag looked good but I saw it up on jackstands with the axles out, don't know what he broke, and the Roadmaster went a mid-12.

The pits were really empty but they are so big it looked worse than maybe it was? At a rough guess from memory besides the cars I listed above there were 20-30 V8 cars and 20 or so TR's.

The day was a little grey and overcast, in the high 70's low 80's, with a fairly constant wind all day varying from tailwind to cross wind at a guess 5-15 mph with gusts to at least 25. They said a thunderstorm was headed this way due about 3 pm but it never hit us. Paul Ferry (HR Parts n Stuff) was the only hardware vender there today (there was also a guy who did custom tee shirts).

More to follow tomorrow night :-).

The S10 stage 2 twisted both axels, the rear was in the truck when it had a SBC in it. I guess it didnt make as much torque as the BBB does.

Most Shut it down as they shift 3rd

This is their shakedown session, They will datalog and adjust accordingly

Then they pull out all the stops.

The popping is overfueling.

I'll be there tomorrow. I almost hope it is dead so the four door can make a bunch of passes.

Last night about 2 AM there was a bunch of wind and rain - I heard up to an inch of rain and about 20-30 miles south of the track several trees were down, one through the roof of a house. I was told the wind was pretty bad here, too, but I was sound asleep :-). All the water was gone by 8-9 AM so had no effect on the racing. The track was full with the Jr Dragster and other classes having a points meet, but it was a strange crowd - full pits and no one (literally) in the stands. There were two qualifying rounds for TSM, TSO, and Q16, at 1 PM and 3 PM. Scot S. posted the TSM first round results in another thread. Again, Bob Armstrong was the only turbo Q16 car, and he ran a high 9 and a 9.38 or so, after replacing a dead alternator. In TSM Tim Lemay in the yellow banana ran a high 10 or low 11, breaking up. I don't remember any other times but no one was faster than the first round top qualifiers. In TSO Dave Fiscus ran an 8.6 first round, then backed off the line with a miss second round that turned out to be a plug wire fallen off. First round Ted A ran an 8.48 to solidly back up his run at Cecil Co last year and the 8.55 yesterday. Forget his second pass but it was slower. Art Paltz in the red Gbody car had problems spooling and ran a 10 something first pass at about 147, and then bettered my personal reaction time record with a 23 second reaction time second round trying to spool, and managed a 9.49 at 149 mph. Chris Lyons ran another 8.78. Rich Rezes had a miss first round and I think ran a high 9 (memory lapse, sorry), then traced his miss to a bent pushrod and missed the second round while chasing parts but is ready for tomorrow. Avon arrived as the second round was starting so didn't get a pass in. Joe Harrington is here with a very nice car that he has for sale, and ran a high 9 first round. That's 7 cars at least for TSO - can't wait for tomorrow. I'm driving home after the races so I'm sure someone else will beat me to posting the final qualifying and elimination results.

Just got a call from Ronnie (Squeak Jr.), Tim LeMay's wrencher, saying that the Banana wasn't breaking up, it was having troubles boosting off the line. The low 11 pass resulted from a 2.1 60'. First pass off the trailer today was a 9.71 with a 1.41 60', 3.9 330, and 6.16@116 1/8. Sounds like they're going to tune in the 60'. The Banana packed the front tires about 3' in the air and was blistering the rear tires with that 1.41 60'.

Steve Hughes put Jason White on the trailer. Sounds like it was a really close 9.5 second race. Jason had more mph but Steve treed him. Didn't get the details, but Cruz beat Diers. So its Hughes vs Cruz in the final.

Fiscus beats Lyons in the TSO finals. Chris' car had a huge fireball come out of it at the end of the track but his fire suppresion system saved the car.

Don Cruz beats Steve Hughs in the TSM finals. Cruz had a very fast pass, Hughs car popped a head gasket after the 1/8th.

Roy,

I have a good feeling that TSO will continue to get more interesting this year.

I understand that there was a fight in the pits. These Buick meets are no place for this. If this keeps up my wife will not let me go to these.
