how would i install my 160 degree thermostate in my gn? any tips b4 i run at it blindly?

Sure....

it is a pretty easy install just make sure you have a magnet on a stick type tool in case you drop the nut that hold the housing in

and you should buy a new housing because sometimes they seem to really be stuck in there and sometimes you kind of have to tear em up getting em out

other than that theres nothing to it really make your life easy and take off uppipe and hose that connects it to the throttle body to give yourself more room to work and thats about it

is that a good enough explanation... im not sure how much you need to know
(like if you know where it is etc)
let me know
Thanks
Rich

PS youre location says eastside that wouldnt be NY would it? if so if you are near queens i could give ya a hand

just follow the upper radiator hose till it ends...the hose slips over the thermostat housing...once you take off the hose there's a crow's foot with one bolt that holds the housing in place...unscrew that bolt and take off the crow's foot...now you should be able to pull out the housing (carefully)...once it's out the thermostat is in vision and you can easily just pull the thermostat out with your fingers...reverse procedure for installation...

Like Rich said be careful pulling the housing out because they are old and thin metal. You will also want to replace the o ring.

I wouldn't even bother putting the stock water neck back in. When I did mine 2 years ago, I picked up a new cast neck at NAPA for less than 20 clams, plus be SURE to get a new o-ring or you'll be pissed later.

If you get the neck at NAPA, ask for 89 Trans Am Turbo 3.8. They don't seem to stock them for 86 or 87 Buicks with the same motor. :rolleyes:

make sure u buy a new neck

bring a blowtorch & a pair of pliers....youre gonna have to get midevil on that thermostat housing;)
