Something hit my drivers side door window from the outside, and left some pretty hefty scratched in it (about 2 inches long)

Is there a way to repair this? I can feel the scratches with my fingernail, so they are pretty deep. It really shows up with the tinting that is behind them on the inside...and is driving me nuts.

If you know someone who works with glass maybe they could try to buff it out for you (or whatever you want to call it). I work for a window manufacturer and have seen some scratches taken out this way. Maybe a local auto glass place could help.

Thanks for the feedback fellas, that's why I come here.

That kit is real interesting, but the thought of trying to do it myself scares the crud outta me. Since I posted this, I have talked to a few area shops, and the response I have gotten is....

"We don't do it, but you might be able to find a shop that will. The problem is if they are not careful they will leave the glass with a warped look from where the repair was done."

Anybody know a qualified shop in the No. Virginia area that can do this right?

I've played around with a few of these polishers over the years of owning a glass shop and did'nt have much luck. From what I've seen, if the scratch is deep enough to click your finger nail through then, "you'll" plobably distort the heck out of the glass trying to get it out. I have seen a few shops that own these $5000.00 scratch polishers and could do a nice job but, It may cost about as much as a new window. My "professional" opinion is that if you just cant get to sleep at night while worrying about the scratch.Try beer;) . If that does'nt work I guess you'll just have to spring for a new window. Good luck.

I have the same problem except worse!! I have ordered a glass buffing kit for deep scratches from eastwoodcompany.com and I'm going to try it myself:eek: I'll let you know how It come's out. The kit is supposed to be here on the 30th.;) Wish me luck. I really would like to save my glass for it has my VIN# on it.

Thanks Moose, let me know how it goes.

Is it the windshield or door glass. They are apparently tempered differently.

It's my door glass on the passenger side. I've only had the car 5 week's, It was already scratched when I bought the car. It look's like some mad woman took a dimond ring or something and just went crazy mad on it! Went down the quarter panel too. I own my own body shop and intend on repainting the whole car. The car had been totaled out several years back and someone fixed it back but not to my satisfaction:rolleyes: I'm going to do their work over so the car will be right this time.;)

Sounds good, where are you located, anyway?

Fixing bad bodywork is more work than doing it right the first time. Good luck on that, too.

Whoa! I'm guessing I'd need a pretty detailed map to find that one, LOL!

Hey, my family is from Lawrenceburg TN, not far from where Elvis ended up.:D
