Anyone ever polish a stainless dp?

I just bought a Thdp 3" what can i use to clean/polish it up? theres pics in the howd i do thread...

TTT...So noones cleaned up a used stainless dp before installing it ? it dosent look too bad but ive seen some really nice ones on here and id do the same...

I've polished stainless before and it's a pain. The best way is to use a buffing wheel and some compound. Takes a while but you can get a mirror polish.

I've done mine several times. It always ends up looking like crap after a few months. It turns gold and at the elbow it will be splotchy blue. If anything splatters on it while it's hot that will stain it. Not worth the effort for no longer than it will look good in my opinion. Now I have hand-rubbed mine with 320 grit sand paper with long strokes. It now looks like the finish of a stainless refrigerator. I figure it will be easier to keep looking good. When it starts getting ugly I'll just rub it down with the sand paper.

Scotch brite pad on a buffer works well. Only problem, it will eventually go back to looking like crap.

I asked this question a few months ago. I was told to Jet-Hot coat it. I had it done at New Image Powdercoatings in Struthers, Ohio. It looks awesome. I have had it on for a few weeks and have driven my car about 200 miles so far, including 4 nice 1/4 mile blasts last night. Still looks awesome. For the $$$, do it. Polishing sucks!

I sanded mine with 600 grit, then 1000 grit (probably just would have used 1000 if it had been new when I started).

Then I used Mothers Billet Polish (I used other cheaper polishes with not very good results) on a microfiber towel...and then buffed it with another microfiber towel.

Yes it changes colors, but the shine and the "mirror" finish is still there...Just hit it with some more polish every once in a while on the car keeps it looking nice.

More time you spend sanding and rubbing will directly effect the end result for sure...On a side note, sanding it and leaving the "brushed" finish I also like.

If you like the "brushed" look, use WD-40 and some steel wool. It makes aluminum and stainless look awesome and nice and even. Cant see the sanding marks. I saw a guy , years ago, do this to an entire Big block Blower engine. Blower,valve covers, manifold, everything. It won best engine compartment at that show.
