I'm getting sick of contacts, been wearing them for 20+ yrs. I'm scared to get Lasik done, but really need it. Anyone here have it done? Your thoughts..

Jason

The only thing im sorry about is that I didnt do it years ago. I had it done about 1.5 years ago and see 20/15;) It takes all of (10) whole minutes to complete. You can experience some Halo effects for a few months after which is normal.

It's so cheap now. I would opt for the lifetime adjustments plan. It's usually only a few hundred more.

X2,,, have a few family members that have had it done and wish they did it long ago.

Good Luck!

I would love to get rid of my contacts but I'm scared to have it done. I know that only a small percentage experience side effects such as the halo or cloudy vision but it would happen to me.

X3 I should have done it sooner.

If you're already scared to have it done, don't watch their video showing you the procedure:eek: . I Had it done over 5 years ago, left eye is perfect, no problems with it ever. The right eye is great, but gets dry, almost as if wearing contacts. When it gets dry it gets just the slightest bit blurry (I am also in NM where the humidity is always very low, so this may not be an issue for everyone). If its the same now as it was then, you cannot wear your contacts for the 30 days prior to the surgery.

I just hope If I get it done, will my vision be as good and clear as my contacts make it now. I know it sounds funny, but my eyes are super important while I'm working on the dents in cars. It took months to train my eyes to "look through" the sheet metal. Guess I'll retrain them if need be. So you guys say go for it.. ok. Cant wear my contacts for 30 days? crap. I'm gonna be bumping into everything! I'm blind as a bat.

After wearing glasses for so many years I've discovered that they're almost a part of my personality. I would feel too awkward without wearing them. Plus I'm close to leagally blind and I doubt surgery would fix my eyes.

AND HAVE YOU SEEN THE PROCEDURE!? No way am I ever going to sign up for that.

I had it done in 1998 and still see 20/15 today at 50 years old. That was before the STAR7 laser and the 28 ablations. I get a slightly dry right eye, but it doesn't bother me anymore. I got anxious when I read and signed the 4 page, double sided waiver, though. My glasses were like Coke bottles and I had astigmatism. Get it done. The first place you'll stop after the procedure will be the Ray Ban store!

I had it done back in 2001. I just wish I would have done it sooner. After the surgery (which took about 10-15 minutes), I could see ok.

The next morning 20/20! Perfect. I haven't had any problems whatsoever. Its nice not wearing contacts or glasses. My vision was so bad that without glasses I couldn't even read a newspaper 2 feet away! I also had astigmatism in both eyes.

It cost me $3400 back then but its alot cheaper now.

When I first went in to inquire about the surgery I had to watch a video that explains the pros and cons of the actual surgery. Then I made my decision to go ahead and do it.

I work in the Vision market and I had PRK done about 12 years ago and I'm 34 with better than 20/20 vision. If you are going to have LASIK done, go for LASIK custom. It is the difference between Regular DVD Player and BlueRay, better color fill and more depth in your vision.

I also financed it with CareCredit for 24 months no-interest. It was by the best thing I ever did.

I had the lasik procedure done back in 2001, and have 20/15 vision. Like the others, wish that I had done it earlier. It's wonderful not to have to rely on a pair of glasses to see properly.

The only recommendation that I have for a someone interested in the lasik procedure is to go to a well known ophthalmologist.

After looking back through the preoperative instructions given to me by my physician:
1. Remove soft contact lenses at least 72 hours prior to your laser
procedure
2. Remove hard or Gas Permeable contact lenses at least 3-4 weeks prior
to your laser procedure.

It would be a good idea to set up a consultation with the clinic you are considering to do the procedure. They will go over the procedure and tell you what to expect.

Thanks a million guys. I will get it done this year

If you go for this I'd like to hear some results from you as to whether or not it affects your PDR ability. I'm in the same boat as you, actually as I type this I'm nursing an eye infection wondering how I'm going to fix any dents tomorrow. I wanted to have this done before I got into PDR, now I'm not sure I'd ever do it.

Nobody realizes just how strenuous PDR is on your eyes. When I went for training it was a two week deal away from home with a PDR veteran. I knew I'd have the evenings to kill in the hotel alone, so I brought my laptop and a playstation along to kill the time. Biggest waste of time ever. Put them back in the trunk the first night and never touched them. After each day was over my eyes hurt like crazy. I'd take out my contacts and listen to the tv for a couple hours before going to bed. Still haven't been involved long enough to really get my eyes conditioned for it. Glad I got into it though, they tell me I'm a natural and had a lot easier time getting it than most others. First whole car I ever did was a really picky guy who took it to a really picky restorer to have the hood and deck replaced (3-4 inch hail). Neither of them could find any dents in the roof :D .

Sorry for the hijack.

I've had it done as well 20/15 in left eye and 20/20 in right. This was the best use of 10 minutes I ever made.......

I wanted to get it done but the on base optometrist said I had to wait a year and have my eyes rechecked again to see if there's any difference in sight since then.
