The word on the street is they run 12.7's bone stock....and get good mpg....thinking about seeing if the salesman will let me drive one....I have to admit they're starting to look more appealing...if only one could get past the $30k base price. :frown:

what constitutes "good" fuel mileage for a V8 powered Mustang?
will it be like the old days where the 5.0 Mustang definition of "good" fuel mileage is 20% less than the heavier 5.7 powered Camaro or Firebird definition of "normal" gas mileage?

Ok well maybe I overshot it....the new 5.0 Mustang is rated at 17 city and 26 highway, yet still makes at least 400 hp and almost 400 ft lb of torque. (the V6 version gets 19/29)

That is still better mileage than I get with my DD T Type...

Funny you should say this. A local car forum I belong to has an ongoing (now at 5 pages worth) debate/friendly arguement about this very topic.

That 12.7 et is a stretch to say the least. With a highly experienced driver behind the wheel, sticky tires, manual trans, full moon, planets aligned, and a 40 MPH tailwind..... I guess this time is achievable.

My real world experience, as witnessed at the drag strip, two guys who are friends of eachother, one having a 2011 5.0 and the other a 2010 Camaro SS, were having fun at the track. They were battling back & forth with each guy netting high 13.70's-13.90's every single run. I personally seen them run 3times.

This is a true demonstration of what the car does bone stock. Everyday person behind the wheel, street tires, & little to no dragstrip experience.

The best line I've heard is all the Mustang nut-swingers blowing off how the new 5.0 will run 10's with a few simple bolt ons. What they claim is with a custom tune, CAI, tires, & exhaust the car runs 10's. BS!!!!

What they are leaving out of this recipe is the Pro-Charger, 175 shot, head work, etc.

well a couple of months ago there was a kid at island dragway in nj with a tune and drag radials going 12.0's to 11.9's, it was impressive to say the least

Hhhmm.....I could see the need for slicks, but all else you mentioned...?

This guy claims the new Mustang 5.0 is a mid 12 second car on stock tires....

And here's a time slip he says of a customer that ran 11's with a 5.0/automatic with a cold air intake, Nittos, 4.10's and a tune....

I just ordered a 2011 5.0 California Special, Im gonna put the required 1,500 miles and then take it to the track. I ordered it with the 3:73's. I'm hoping to put the drags on and Exhaust, CAI, and tune and run low 12's. I sold my 03 Cobra that ran mid to high 11's.

2010 GS Corvette

It's about the heaviest corvette made (3311 Lbs) and comes with the standard LS3 (430 hp) and I weigh 250 and the car has the automatic trans; and no mods.
I took it to the track yesterday and I went 12.66 with just three runs total. I think with some more experimenting I will get It to go a little quicker.

I have not driven one, but anyone that has any experience drag racing should know, that car seems to have the "potential" to go into the 12s. I am sure the MPH will be good, everything depends on the 60 ft. I would say that a good driver with dragradials, and nothing else could put that car in the 12s easily.

I may have been different, the main number I was interested in was my MPH, that is the number that tells you the story, your elapsed time can vary wildly based on traction, or lack of.

I mean, there are GN's that run in the high 11's with a 108 trap speed...

That car is no more (actually less) powerful than a car that runs 12.7 @112, it just kicks azz in the 60.

Yes I drove one a few months ago when I was thinking of trading in my 08 Shelby GT500. Car felt good but no where near the feel you get from the GT500 although the ET's are almost identical based on what the magazines claim.

I just couldn't get myself to pull the trigger.

Nice looking car, what was the MPH?

Car and Driver (for what thats worth) says 13.2 @ 109.

Motor Trend with two different cars

12.8 sec @ 110.8 mph
12.7 sec @ 111.3 mph

This is not uncommon.

Evolution Motorsports built a 11 GT Auto that with just Gears, exhaust, tune anddrag radials went mid 11s at 120ish...

115 MPH was the highest (stone stock) so far but not on that 12.66 pass. The third pass would of been quicker but I was bracket racing starting on the third pass and let out due to being to far ahead. Once I work out the launch the et may improve.
