I'll be rebuliding my trans in a week or so. I installed a Art Carr shift kit in it about 10 years ago. Is this kit still good or should I buy another one? I want to have all the parts I'm gonna need on hand. Also I was told to reuse the old kit but not to drill the seperator plate.Does this sound right?

Thanks John O

John O, do you belong to the buick club of western ny? If so, not sure I can place who you are.
Anyway I am getting ready to rebuild mine (first time) so was wondering what rebuild parts are you buying? Do you have all the special tools and stand?
Is it back together? Thanks

paul

if there were any aspects of the kit you didnt like you may want to install a stock gn plate without drilling it.most older units will have damaged holes in the plate from the checkballs cycling or too big a feed hole.both will result in poor performance,

Paul, Yes I belong to the club, and you do know me I put Phil's motor together for him .I got the stage 2 kit from Chris and a new pump ,My stator was shot ,I'm surprized the car was still moving.
I do have all the tools but no stand, you can use a bucket.Mark is helping me out with it.He has done alot of them.

Chris, I was impressed with the kit and will put up a posting after I get the trans back in and replace the leaking intake gasket.

thanks -John O:cool:

Can you compare it to Bruce's rebuild kit at PTS? I know there is a little difference of opinion in # of frictions used where Bruce says to use same # as stock and Chris adds extra discs.
What about other differences?

How did you check the intermediate band apply pin travel unless you have the special dial indicator tool?

I am looking at doing a complete rebuild so will need all the parts.
Looking at various vendors for kits and other hard parts.

Ck was my first and only choice for parts. Everyone I know has the extra clutches in their trans.I went to competition trans in tonawanda and they use the extra ones too and their trannys are the best around in western NY. Also since Chris is in NY he's easy to get a hold of. As with most things you buy everyone says their stuff is the best,so it comes down to what you want and like. There's always two ways skin a cat.I've never heard anybody complain about the stuff from CK, and on these boards you hear it all.
As for the special tools ,I have most of them and Mark at R&R had the dial indicator..He's built all the trannys in his various street and race cars and they have'nt broke and he runs in the low10's. Ask some of the guys in the club who have fast cars about what they have in their trannys and if they had any problems.

CK trans kit

I installed my trans today and I can't believe the difference.Icould only drive it for a half hour before it started raining,But this tranny cranks. With the stage 2 kit from CK and the converter I had made, totally woke my car up.Now I have to get some better tires.

I had a stock D5 restalled to 2800,installed a heavy duty lockup clutch,harnened hub,brazed fins, torrington bearings,balanced.
This was done at Empire Converters in the Falls. We brought him some converters from other Buick venders that needed to be cleaned and checked .He said there was nothing in there he could'nt do or do better. He's made coverters for Mark at R&R
The shop is hard to find(it's at Niagara Falls airport), and the prices are hard to beat.My converter cost $135 with tax since I had the D5 to give him.The guys name is Bill and the phone# is 716-731-4225
All they do is converters and they've been around for a long time.He does converters for most of the tranny shops in area.
Call him up and check out the shop
