pte 6265 turbo
hooker headers

or do i just re ring and bearing and all studs. and have fun

thanks for the help Jim

To me a girdle is needed when you "build" the motor. meaning steel crank, aftermarket rods, forged pistons, etc.

When your throwing stock stuff together.. why worry about it. If its an occasional 550.. not a problem. If its hammer time every week.. then you know the answer.

Power is cam and heads on these motors. Turbo then influences that.

I went with the girdle but not the steel crank or connecting rods, converted the rods to floating wrist pin for the diamond pistons. Once you have one installed you can see how it strengthens the bottom end, and if you bust a bearing cap, your not going to drive over the crank. I can't imagine breaking a bearing cap with a girdle on there, you still take the risk of breaking a crank in half.....
When you go steel crank there is more money in the harmonic balancer and flywheel then the crank itself, I could not justify it for my goals.
RJC has a real nice product out there with the girdle, all his products are good.

Ok, so at what point is a girdled needed? "Dr. Paul" the guru in the MAGNA Club, just ran a 10.6 something in a totally stock short block, and runs 100's of times a yr, (lives very close to a track) it's all in the tune, keep the knock away and you can really push these buick motors... My girdle is there for pc of mind...

I would just use program caps on that motor and spend some money on balancing the rotating assembly and on some better pistons. By the time you have all the machine work done on the block it's still gonna have a chunk of $$ tied up in it just with basic stuff like that... A girdle would be nice but the 62mm compressor doesn't seem to warrant it.

Ditch the hooker headers. I would aslo use a stock ECM over the XFI, but that's purely just preference.... XFI is a lot of $ compared to the rest of the combo.
