I got a buddy who just bought ATR headers and I told him about this thread. He now has to buy a DP, any difference between a 3.5 THDP and 3" ATR or THDP?. If there isnt any noticeable difference performance wise?

Any thoughts I can pass along to him as he wants to make his DP decision soon.

Thanks from him in advance.

turboTR, your car can use the headers....anything less, don't think so

buicksx, unless you are making 700 hp+, a 3" DP is plenty...just make sure your Bud gets the ATR version of whatever DP

OK...... I'm convinced the ATR headers are great but as someone stated above, I can't use them with my new 3"THDP! The THDP is already installed and used. I can't return or exchange it!

I guess my only choice is Terry Houston headers or Poston's. Like I said before, price isn't as important as quality and room to grow. I plan on mid to low 11's when all is said and done.

Does anyone know how I can get in touch with Terry H or at least a vender that carries his headers. If not, I guess I'll go with the Poston's. The Poston headers are a direct factory replacement and will fit with my 3"THDP, correct?

Thanks again for all of the responses:)

So they won't benefit ANY stock block motor? hehe

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the benefits of un-plugging the passenger side cylinders from some exhaust backpressure. Now if you people would just put your wastegates on the crossover, you'd be even farther ahead.

The chainsaw sound is that distictive note you hear when you hear the fast cars run.
The "Chainsaw" sound comes from Deltagates venting to atmosphere. Doesn't have a whole lot to do with whose headers you are running.

Thank You Sir, I appreciate that. 1000 bucks is steep, but if the fit and quality is as good as his down pipe, it's worth it!

I'm glad I asked this question. I didn't think the ATR headers would interfere with the down pipe.

If anyone is using the TH headers, please comment.

Thanks:)

I was just told that the ATR headers will fit a the 3" th dp    So I guess my ? is before I buy a set do they indeed work with a th dp 3". I don't know what the "new one"(yh dp) is but I got mine from a guy I used to go to for just buick work about 2, 2 1/2 years ago and I don't want to buy headers that are not going to fit. Anyone have any witrh this combo ATR headers and TH 3"DP??

They actually sound kind of different than the stockers, more of a stainless "snap" them.I do have a gripe about them, they seem to have cracked at the "Y" junction on the passenger's side. You will also need a downpipe that works with them.A D/P for factory headers won't work without major mods.

I think I answered your question here. However,to elaborate, the THDP will interfere with the crossover at the bend on the passenger's side,if you have a THDP for stock headers. There is a THDP available[last I heard] for ATR headers. It swings out wider to clear the pass. side crossover.Hope that clears it up for you.

I have worked on and removed and replaced most of the TR headers including ATRs. Houstons are easy to install and spool a turbo as fast as a stock set. He has refined them to an work of art. He has now even added expanding rings in the tubes like a stock set to relive any future stress from the heat cycles. You install them without gaskets.
On top of all he backs his products 100% and is a pleasant to deal with and returns all his calls. He used them to go 8.64.
I would not think of buying any other, they are the best! I have two friends that have them after seeing mine. These are the last headers a TR will ever need. I also have his 3.5 downpipe. Nice!

To each their own. A larger percentage of the faster cars in the country run ATR headers without a doubt. Also for 1k you can almost get a set of ATR headers and downpipe, not just headers. Love mine!

O.K. I guess my car doesn't have a distinct chainsaw sound to it unlike my stock headered car. I would agree that Houstons and ATR's headers sound alike.

I have had a deltagate mounted on the crossover and do not think that has even a remote simularity to a chainsaw. Everybody has opinions, I thought we were discussing the different sound headers make over stock "headers".

I have never noticed any gains mounting a deltagate on the crossover. This was in the high 11 mark. I would be interested in some info from somebody that can show some proof it works.

Hey Bob, Thanks for the info on the TH headers! After installing that 3" THDP, I feel very comfortable with TH products! That DP fit like a dream. No problems or modifications at all!

I don't need more than a stock header right now, but plan on doing a lot of work over the winter. I was just worried about killing performance until then. The car is running very strong for what I have in it, and I'd like to keep it that way.:D

The TH headers sound like the way to go regardless of the price.

Thanks again, Vic

i am not sure if my cars capabilities yet (will no at a track rental on fri) but my box stock GN1 heads have bigger ports than the stock headers,so i would say if you run GN1 heads (aluminum) you will need a set of aftermarket headers,
Now if i could just get a set by friday:D

DP's yes, headers no. I haven't seen car one with TH's headers and haven't seen shouting reviews about them on here either other than Bob's.

Yea your right, but I haven't seen anyone say to stay away from them either! I think price is the major concern with TH.

I'm not knocking ATR in any way, but I had the 3" THDP for the TTA as well as the GN. The TTA down pipe is a work of art! If he puts the same effort and attention to detail into his headers, I'm sure they are top notch!

As I've stated earlier, I already have a brand new THDP mounted! Most folks agree that the ATR headers won't fit without serious mods to either! I'm not about to chuck a $450.00 downpipe, that fits great, to go with the ATR stuff!

The ATR headers and DP go for $1095. + toss the THdp = $1600+

Go with TH headers $1000. and keep THDP= $1400.

This seems to be my only option considering future mods!

I don't know too much about the Poston headers. Is there a performance advantage or are they just stock replacements?

Tow man,
My son's TTA has that THDP and I agree it is a work of art. By the way Terry supplies a stud kit for his headers. He also makes a special crossover if you are running Jason's girdle. The ports matched up fine with the GN1s without any effort.
Postons are more of a stock replacement set.

The last I heard, TH does not make the DP for the TTA or GN. Rather he makes the flange that he welds to the DPs that are bent in GA, (Grand Muffler).
