I just bought some 100aviation fuel with intents on putting in my car. I was told that I was a low lead 100 octane when I called on the phone. After purchase I asked to confirm and he said its 100 lean and 130 rich. What’s that mean? Should I put this in my car? It’s got to be better than 91 octane right? I’m leaving for the track in about an hour; if anyone can shed light please do so.

Thanks Chad

Low lead in aviation fuels is a relative term. All of the "experts" that I've talked to tell me that av. fuels are MUCH higher in lead content than most race fuels.
Things could have changed in the last few years though I suppose.

I think that

lean and rich refer to the mix control settings in an airplane.
Av gas can be tricky to tune with, as it contains ingredients to allow for hi altitude combustion, varying temps, anti icing, etc.
IMO, it's better to stick with race gas, if thats what you need. BTW, we use Sonoco 114 No led on the dyno..

I thought leaded fuel would kick the crap out of your oxygen sensor?

it will !

it'll fowl it,
mix the av gas with 93, and run it,
did some testing yrs ago, had a 11:30 car, ran av gas and it slowed 3 tenths,
bumped the timing, and got 3 tenths back,
so whats the reason for av gas?
buy race fuel and forget it!

i have run 100LL in my buick before. sometimes we have left overs that we just have to burn :)

I was trying to be cheap. I thought premium 91 oct is roughly $3/gal so aviation fuel at $4.25/gal was a good deal. I learned and move on. Race fuel from hear on out.
