RJC intercooler

i like my RJC mega cooler. it was easy to install and the performance so far has been awesome. my car runs cool too in the Georgia heat  . First pass was a 11.44 at 122.86 with a small te44 at 23 lbs and a soft launch because i was worried about breaking something. i don't have any data as far as intake temps but the intercooler seems to be working great. i will be putting a th400 with a brake and a 70 or bigger turbo in a couple of months..i am looking for a very low 10 car that i can drive to the track and back home an hour each way. Bob

Georgia heat.. our summers here in Texas make Georgia fee like winter!:p

Our vendors on this board have some very nice I/C's out there.

I will be the first to admit I don't completly understand I/C design. I do try to look at things with common sense though. The percision is one of the smaller units right? Isn't that the one Dave laid down the big TSM # with, 9.23? So that leads me to belive size isn't everything:biggrin:

Dave's is a custom piece made from 2 Precision ICs I believe. But Kerney was using the RJC when he went 8.95  Roy & Laz were using Jack's when they went 9.32

2 Precision intercoolers would not be legal in TSM due to the core hanging down past the core support. We made a great intercooler even better by adding a few more rows of core on the bottom to reach the core support.

I heard Roy and Laz had some problems after that pass, it appears they have found the limit of the " New **** "

I wasn't trying to say the percision was the best, just saying........

I can't wait to see which I/C wins the TSM crown this year:eek: Might surprise EVERYONE:wink:

I would have to agree with Sully on this. Not picking one over the other. But here we have 3 very quick cars:

Dave running the custom Precsion 9.23
Roy and Laz running the Cottons 9.32
Dick running RJC Megacooler 8.95
BA cooler I can't see being any different then the ones above, they are all good.

These coolers look to me like they are doing there jobs. My own personal opinion, I think once you enter into these guys hp areas, either one of these 4 to 5" thick full faced intercoolers are going to do the job riding behind a competent tuner.

Q. How can you tell when Dave Bamford is lieing??

A. He is posting about intercoolers.

Roy & Laz's problem was fuel pump related not IC related.

The primary job of an intercooler it to reduce temp so temp is a very important thing to look at. We also need to look at overall flow and pressure drop across the core. If it cools well and either will not flow enough air or causes lots of PSI drop between the turbo and the intake then it has problems even though the temp is low. This intercooler thing is really a big

I just purchased a intercooler from RJC I dont know if it flows and cools BUT all my research proves that it does ,, he is great vendor:cool:

I think this thread needs to be put into some prespective. Dave, Roy, Dick and a few others that run low 9's would have a issue running the common coolers from Precsion, Cottons etc. but the vast majority of guys running high to low 10's don't need intercoolers that would be found those guys cars. They are in a league far beyond what the norm is. For the guy running 11's 10's and some high 9's its not that big a issue. There are probably like 30 turbo buicks that would need that heavy duty 5" cooler, but there is hundreds of Buicks that would be fine with the regular 3.5" thick front mounts. I have a Precsion front mount on mine and when I data logged my run my mat temps were 160 at the end of my pass:eek: But when I use the alky my temps are 90 at the end of the run. I will be picking up something at Bowling Green this year. I have tried contacting BA. They are frustrating to get ahold of, so I am going to talk to Cramer and Cotton and see what we can work out. Both those vendors are a pleasure to deal with so thats my 2 choices right now.

I have a BA cooler 5 inches thick, it works great, i have had 5 different front mounts in my car, BA sent me the cooler and said if you dont like it or want it send it back , i installed it and 6 months later they sent me a bill and the price was 300 bucks less than the price i paid another vendor for the one i took off, they are great guys to deal with, i dont care who goes fast with what cooler i didnt buy it because some other person has one, as of this time it will be the last cooler that i will ever own, good luck on your purchase,

That is true.. Im just trying to keep my options open.. Im not buying a intercooler because " it looks cool" or is "really big!" has to be efficient and make mph. Its seems the Precision is proven.. RJC piece looks nice, but have not heard any performance gains from it.

This is straight from RJC's website:

#NEWS FLASH;
DickKerney smashes all records to be the first stock 109 block buick TR in the 8s Here is a quote from Dick himself "I could have never done it without the RJC IC-475 intercooler." We replied, "Thanks for giving us the opertunity to let our products shine" What an unbelievable accomplishment!!!.
NEW RECORD! 8.95 @ 156 mph Speedworld Phoneix, AZ.

Just saw this yesterday. Thought you might like it.

It starts with PV=nRT.

Steve,
The ideal gas law is the most accurate for monatomic gases and is favored at high temperatures and low pressures. It does not factor in the size of each gas molecule or the effects of intermolecular attraction. The more accurate Van der Waals equation takes these into consideration. Thought you might be interested in plugging this one in too.
