champion racing here in palm coast cleaned and pressure tested and re assembled my stock irons for 80 bucks , but I know a guy Tom LOL , but well worth it , like I said you have gotten this far in tear down have the block hot tanked and magna fluxed for piece of mind and go from there

That cooling system is a mess.
As mentioned before... Time for a hot tank, and a rebuild.

what hole is the wet port from?

Since you are there I would re ring it atleaat . That could be why you are getting smoke.
