Can anyone help me with a problem I am having with my Turbo Buick. I keep losing main or rod bearings after about 20 runs at the track. The oil pump is fine oil pressure is fine. It just seems that the bottom half of the motor never seems to get oil. I am dumbfounded as to what this continual problem is. I am not over boosting the car. Just starts knocking after about 20 runs and when I pull the oil pan either the rod or the mains are shot? Please advise

Definetly not too much timing. The timing is set in my chip which was done by the premier Buick builder on the east coast Bill Anderson.

Not sure what you mean by any remote oiling system. Please explain....Thanks, Bobby

Shoot me an email or PM and give me some details on your combination, maybe I can help you out. What brand of oil filter are you using?

Is your oil filter in the stock location? Any oiling mods?

You might want to try a HV oil pump.

Bill,
the motor is .030 over but pretty much all stock. I use an ACPF52 oil filter which is a little longer then the original ones the car required. Don't know what else to say. motor is preety much stock. The Turbo is a TE60 car has aluminum heads also 55# injectors.. Please advise if you need more info...Thanks..

Bill,
forgot to mention I do have a HV oil pump and aftermarket timing cover

Well, if you're going to replace the bearings and try again, you have to make some changes or it'll probably repeat the problem. If it were me, I'd install a a biggie oil filter adapter which will allow you to run a full size filter. Another thing I do with main bearings is drill out the the oil supply holes to 9/32". This will also increase the volume of oil to the bearing surfaces.

I recall some of those aftermarket timing covers having problems with blockage in the oil passages. Could be an issue.

John,
Never herd of drilling out the mains. But it sounds like a good idea and will definetly try that as well as any other good sound advice. As for the oil filter adapter where would I get that or do you have a part # or any info on that so as I get the right one....Thanks, Bobby

RJC sells the "biggie" adapter on their website for $35. They specialize in TR parts.

Drilling the main bearings will definitely put more oil on the journals and should help your problem. There's no downside to this modification.

Hey........and don't forget me.......I sell this kit that keeps trash out of your turbo. ;)

John,
Would their website be RJC.com? also what do you sell your kit for?...thanks again for the help and info.

What are the clearences on your rod and main bearings? What type of oil pressure are you getting at idle in Gear and hot. As mensioned some aftermarket oil pump housings had machining problems.
