Buying a Ruger Redhawk .44

I find myself wanting (needing?) a Ruger Redhawk .44

So...that being said...it will be a stainless one but not sure between 4" or 5.5" barrel.

I know the recoil will be less with the longer barrel but will it be THAT much less?

Anyone own both and have opinions?
General opinions welcome too

Seriously though, depending on what you are buying it for I prefer the longer barrel as it is easier to get back on target and gives you more accuracy as well...

The only reason I go with shorter barrel guns anymore is for concealment only...

I will add to what Shane said in that you'll get a slight edge on velocity with the longer barrel (very slight). The sight plane is much better as he said as well as the weight helping you to bring it back on target faster.

I held both yesterday and the 5.5 is probably what I will get. It felt right and looked balanced to me. The 4" felt good too but I think for what I will be doing the 5.5 should be fine. If I carry it concealed it will be to protect the gun from the weather while out walking. A .44 would not be my first choice for true cc.

I plan to target shoot and scare the other people on the range and should zombies attack I will plink one or two with it before I go automatic on their rotting backsides.

Cabella's is where I will be shopping and they want 750.00 and some change for a 5.5 stainless with black rubber grips.

The catch is this...every so often they send me a card for "Spend over 500.00 and we will give you $100.00 gift card" special. When they do that...I go gun shopping

So....factor in that and the 25 or 35 bucks to ship to an ffl and Cab's price is hard to beat when on 'special.'

That is a nice gun though, will last forever! It was one of my dad's favorite guns as well!

try shooting DE 50 cailber. it'll almost fracture your wrist, i always love it when people are like WTF is that. i've even had a few people come down a few ranges over to see what i'm shooting. Fun gun but expensive dog to feed. i own 2 and one i can convert to a 44 mag if i change the barrel, clip, and slide ( i think ) but why would i if the 50 is the big dog then i always love to let the big dog eat. just not too much because bullets costs around 35ish for 20 rounds. the fun part is trying to shoot both at the same time in both hands. i actually have a gun range down the street from where i live and i took them in there with some of my other guns and the guy was like you can't shoot those here. i asked why and he said i'd blow a hole in the back of the building :biggrin:, i thought then what the heck, you should be able to stop it but then again i wouldn't want to hurt anyone if that did happen and plus there is a church behind the range and i don't want to get on the wrong side of god.

I've got a .44 Super Blackhawk with a 7.5" barrel and it has alot of kick but it is smaller than the Redhawk so that may make a difference. If I shoot .44 specials it's okay but magnums make it jump....which is fun :biggrin:

sure i hit something the dirt behind the target, heck no those beasts are way to much to really try to be accurate. i only did it for fun and yes the 50 is the big dog of the handguns. but i had to have one, with my background in the pawn business i bought the blued for 600 and the chrome one for 1000 which is a good deal. they are fun to shoot and as i said they kick like hell and always bring people around to see what all the fuss is about. i don't mind and even let people shoot them sometimes. but the ammo is expensive so i usually only let someone shoot it once. heck once is enough for most people. the concussion on them you can feel over 15 ft away. i don't know why i bought them but it was just something i wanted and just like the feedback i get from people who shoot them or are around when i do. here's a pic of both of them just so you guys don't think i'm being untruthful. my baby is my baby eagle, it's a 9mm and is as accurate as can be and i qualified with it when getting my CHL. i only had one shot outside the body. i've owned alot lof different guns and my fav is the baby. i know it's overkill but just like our cars it's the awesome factor that made me get them along with the price. i still have a few others that i want but i'm holding off, i think my 12 guns i have is plenty but then again it depends on the person.

Cool! We got a stainless one in and we love it:biggrin: I have a gold one coming for my office. I plan on putting it in the wall behind my desk in a glass case that says "Break Only If The SHTF":biggrin:

i'm sure you love them

eagles are great guns i've never had my baby jam on me and it has a very small ejection port. low kick and is well balanced with a full clip. i highly recommend them to anyone and had a buddy borrow it for his CHL class he took last tuesday. i'm actually cleaning it tonight because he doesn't know how to break it down. but as i stated the 50's are just purely for the fun factor. if you've shot one or own one then you know what i'm talking about. back in the early 90's i had a 357 eagle and it was nice but i wasn't really liking it too much to i traded it for the baby eagle and a ruger 9mm. figured i did well since i only paid 500 for the 357 and got 2 guns outta it from another guy who worked with me. so your in the gun business? and i like that glass breaking think i just hate to have any of my guns on display other then next to me at night just in case. we had an iron clad alarm in both stores i was in and we got broken into and one store they knew their stuff and got several guns and some jewelry. had a field day in there and i just never liked the idea of displaying them.
