California Car Cover Cleaning

I have a custom fix California Car Cover. The car sits outside. It gets alot of bird crap on it. It seams to be loosing it's "water repeling" properties. I tried to wash one of my covers in a gian washing machine and it got torn up. Can it be cleaned and restored?

I've always machined washed all my car covers on gentle cycle and the wash up nice, not sure why there would be an issue, even with this thicker cover.

I found some cleaning instructions on the cal cover site. I have a small rip. Anyone fix a car cover before?
