I got my parts in the other day from G-body Parts many thanks to Brian and the guys, great service and awesome parts ! I install the shorty center console which seems to fit an look like to came with the car fwiw... Love it.
I had to replace the battery a while back and the hold down bracket broke so I ordered a new one which is a perfect match to the old, but same as the old when I tried to put it on it does not fit over the battery very well.
It is an Autozone battery same as the last one except its a yellow top not red. The old one was like this too you really have to force the hold down to clamp and that is why the original one broke I think it just finally fatigued and broke. I figure I'll take the battery out I don't think there is a spacer on the bottom but it was late when I stuck it in it. Now for the attack I was leaned over the battery trying to figure out if I had it in right and BAM !!! the hood hit me in the back of the head ! Now the hood wont stay up ! LOL.... the money pit deepens !!!
are these cylinders a local parts store item or do I need to order them specific?

Anyone going on the power tour this year ??? I am planning to drive the Dallas Texas to Little Rock legs.

Should be able to get the hood cylinders locally. Unfortunately I won't be going to the p/tour.

For the battery hold down bracket, maybe you can notch the slot where it fits into behind the battery. I've never looked at it close enough to see if that is possible but it may be worth looking at for a fix.

I've bought the hood supports from Pepboys they had them on the shelf, but that was a long time ago. If your local parts store doesn't have them in stock i'm sure they can order them for you.

In the mean time watch out for that hood,i know it weighs a lot.

I got some at Pep Boys about two years ago, they had them on the shelf and they have a lifetime warranty.

I got hit like that one time. Will wake you up won't it? Scared the s@%t out of me. One minute I'm working. Next minute I'm pinned.:p

I had the hatch come down on me when I was taking the subs out of my iroc-now that's PAIN:eek: Hood supports are cheap. I can get them for less than 30 bucks new and are usually in stock. As far as the battery situation goes, swap it out of another car you have. Most cars take the same group, especially if they're gm

Take it easy on the hold downs they are discoed. I have less then 20 left.
On the hood shocks we get them from ac delco. We installed a set a while back that a customer supplied from else where & damn near bent the hood. Way too strong.

Local supplier gets them from monroe. I'll admit they seemed stiff when I first put them on but they seemed to have loosened up a bit.

I'd imagine battery hold downs are starting to get scarce. I had 3, sold one. Put one on my car to replace the busted one and I have one spare somewhere in a pile of junk.

.
Get the correct AC-Delco battery and that won't happen.

Then you can replace it every 2 years like the walmart ones lol
I have been using AC-Delco batteries for over 35 years and I have never had one last less than 7 years. The one in my Cadillac lasted 11 years but then your comment is on par with a lot of other bogus info that floats around on this website. :)

Your hold down does not fit right because you are using a larger battery than stock. If I remember correctly there is a "nub" you can grind off on the bottom of the tray that will allow the battery to sit lower and then the hold down will work.

Yeah that's why I just had to have mine replaced under warranty last week after 18 months
