Hey guys, My GN started getting knock and the electric was going in and out heading up the road, The car started braking up looked at the gauges the SM was going nuts with some crazy numbers did pull a code 34, My gauges were working oil press etc, but the volt gauge went to zero. Im thinking it was the alt. that died. But why would it throw a MAF code for that? I am in the right school of thought would the code be caused because of the Alt.? or should I look at another thing first. The car has a LS1 MAF and translator about two years old, No prior problems with it or the car for that matter..... Thanks!

I just ordered a Caspers field fix wire to see by chance if it is the Volt light that burned out, I do not remember seeing it come on. It just seems like its the Alt. that went bad, I checked all the cables and grounds from the battery to starter and all seem fine.

Ok I did some more poking around and I found burn spot in the starter wire. Its not that bad, the rubber wire cover is burned, hence exposed wire. When I try to start it it does crank up so the starter is getting power. Could I have blown a link or something? I have a new Alt. that I dont want to waste my time and money putting it on if I dont have to.

So it cranks and starts?
What is the voltage reading at idle?
Did you secure the cable away from the manifold?
Is the motor mount on the drivers side broken?

Adam,

When my positive battery cable got against the header and burned through I just replaced the cable and secured it away from the exhaust manifold, all was ok after that.

Hey Chuck! Thanks for the insight guys, That had to have been the problem along with a weak battery. I charged the battery over night and got it back up to over 12volts and I had two burn marks on the starter wire. I fixed that all up and moved it away from the header and used some heat proof tape and wraped the wire, Now she is good to go! Thanks!
