Cat Converter!!!!

No matter how hard i try, i just can't get the cat off the down pipe everything is original its almost like they're welded together any help?

I think I was able to get the cat moving by rotating it.

Get something like a braker bar between the inside upper and outside lower bolts on the back side of he cat and try to rotate it that way. Also try moving it up and down while hitting it with the BFH.

Or you can try my method. Loosen downpipe at turbo. Realize that you can't separate cat from downpipe without ruining either one or both unless you have a torch (I didn't). Try to lower downpipe and cat out of car as a unit, then realize that your jack stands aren't tall enough to let you lower the whole mess down as a unit without hitting garage floor. Get frustrated, cuss and sprinkle F-bombs liberally. Finally after swilling a beer and bandaging bloody knuckles, hacksaw the POS stock downpipe apart from the converter. Throw both parts in trash and replace with a Houston downpipe and cutout.

How about a lengthwise cut with a die grinder and cut-off wheel (or dremel) and open up the pipe. Remove cat. Then have the slit welded back together. My problem is that my bolts (studs?) are rusted solid on the other end of the cat. If I cut them off can I just replace them with new bolts or, if they are studs, do I need to drill out the cat flange to accept bolts?

I think the bolts are metric. I have a stock cat, got it off the board and gutted it, and I was able to use the stock bolts.

If you can salvage the cat, gut it and put it back on.

I suppose you are using something like Liquid Wrench on both ends of the cat.

Go with a new downpipe and remove the whole setup from the stock elbow to the flange after the cat. Keep it for emmissions and run a THDP or something bigger and better for daily driving. Good luck and use a torch....
