I have a set of (Excessive Acceleration) ported iron heads on my 109 block. I am very happy with them. The flow numbers seem to be comparable to everything else that's out there.
Good luck,
Ed

86Brick, I cannot tell you Walt's MPH as I do not remeber, though I am sure Roy's was higher. MPH varies alot from track to track so I usually only use it as a measure when both cars run on the same track. As an example I can tell you that Osceola's MPH for the 1/4 is down from most tracks though the 1/8 seems to be correct.
Take care, Kip

Kip,

I'm assuming Osceola is at a higher elevation than some of the other tracks in the Midwest?? Either way Walt's car is definitely hauling the bacon with your iron heads and I'm super impressed at how fast he is running in TSM trim up against those aluminum headed bullies!:p

PS: Is Walt going to be at Reynolds?? If so his car could run a serious # there as that seems to be the record setting event for TSM cars:cool:

Brick the slip reads 1.408 60' 6.099 113.597 1/8 9.580 139.991
The car was loose for the first 300' or so.

I think Walt ran the .58 at his home track in Wisconsin, not Osceola. Not sure what the elevation is there.

As far as the ported and polished IRON heads go are the Champion's really the best or is their better , looking for opinions!!!

I did a bunch of searches and lots of reading in the last 6 months. Seems all the "popular" head porters know what they are doing and you can't really go wrong with any of them. Some concerns I had were the use of bronze wall valve guides and the filling of EGR ports-Champion does both. Bronze wall guides tend to wear out faster than steel, and you may or may not have a issue if you need to go through emissions inspection with the EGR ports filled (apparantly little is gained from this practice). For a street/strip car performance will be close enough between them all not to worry about buying a set from one vender vs another. You will find the ones that are a little more costly than Champions usually have a little more work into them, such as steel guides.

Good luck

Thanks for sharing your timeslip Walt. That is an impressive pass and it sounds like you still have more in it:cool:

Champion Heads

I just recieved a set of these heads today. I will install them and let everyone know how they work compared to the stock heads. I hope to be in the 9's.

I've heard of champion iron heads going 10.90's with a 61 turbo.
I've personally run arizonagn iron heads 10.90's with a 61 turbo.
From what I can tell, both cars were setup pretty close and running comparable boost.
As far as 9's, I switched to AL heads before maxing out the irons.

I am running 10.33et's on stock heads untouched. I think the 9's will happen with ease. Read my sig. and you will see why.

I had a Champion Iron head crack this year and the motor hydrolocked. The heads were two years old - I sent them to Champion and 2 months later they sent me two new heads for 1/2 price.

The car weighs 3150 without me.

At that weight 9's will definitely be a bit easier with the iron heads. My brother's Buick powered Mustang should weigh about the same with him in it and his will have a 249" 109 with iron heads looking for some 9's... I'm thinking he shouldn't have to push it too hard to get there:smile:
