Quick run down, 36lb injectors matching TT chip, RJC plate, Dutt neck, hot wired 255 lph pump, single into two exhaust. KR keeps creeping back when I fill up with 93 octane without any type of octane booster. I had my chip adding 20% fuel and retarded the timing 2* or so, this got rid of KR as long as I had some type of octane booster or toluene in the tank.

I'm only running 16lbs of boost. I'm going to order an ALKY kit, prior to this, can I use a manual boost controller to turn down the boost? I have a new one in the box, just haven't installed it yet. I'm not sure if I need an adjustable regulator or can just use the controller.

That's the funny thing, I get all kinds of numbers that don't make sense. I think it has a bad 02 sensor. It seems the run at 750 800 idle and around town but at wot I get numbers like .015 .697 etc. I may be experiencing a lean at wot. There is just no way I'm maxing out 36lb injectors with my mods.

I don't know, you think this is a problem? If its hard to tell from the picture, the 02 sensor is rusted in half. I'm getting ready to take it for a ride and see if my 02 readings are a little more normal now.

O2 is FUBAR. Should be running fine with a new one. Hope you went with a Denso. Seems ACs are junk now...
Didn't this get covered in another post and the recommendation was a new O2??

Uh yes and no, I was asking in this post how to turn down the boost and if it was possible with the turbonetics manual boost controller. I didn't get an answer yet, but I was told my sensor was probably no good in another thread if thats what your asking.

Took the car out for a bit and have 780-808 02 readings at part throttle. My WOT 02 readings vary on engine load. On x-way in third I'll get anywhere from 697, 703, 736 and .5 KR

Turbo's are still like black magic to me. I'm sure the boost controller set up is quit simple but Im not even sure which vac hose to tee off. The instructions are for an external waste gate.

A picture of someone manual boost controller with factory turbo and actuator would make my day.

Pronto, sometimes after I take my sleeping pill I stay awake and don't remember what I was doing.....

Driving around in any gear the O2 mv should be bouncing all around. Gettin on it in third is the highest load so at what boost numbers did you get knock?

Your baseline boost setting is going to be controlled by the wastegate itself. Boost valves only work in raising the boost from that point. another FYI is that pump gas is only good for about 16 psi of boost before you start getting knock..... unless you start reducing the timing. The motor can tolerate higher boost in low gear because of a reduced load, but where you want to tune from is a 3rd gear WOT. That produces a higher load and it's where you'll be getting the most knock during a run.

There are losts of debates on what gives better results.... high boost, low timing or the reverse. In any case, you're not going to be able to reduce the boost with a boost valve, you'll need to set the actuator rod mounted on the turbo for your baseline setting. If you want to run higher boost levels, I recommend methanol injection or high octane/ race gas.

I'm seeing about .2 KR at WOT 15-16lbs now that I've retarded the timing a bit. Also, I still believe its lean at WOT. The highest 02 number I saw was 736, was advised to buy a new maf too. See below and you'll understand why I haven't yet.

It's a Bosch 02 that I had already purchased. I didn't want to explain why I didn't get the recommended 02 sensor and ALKY kit yet because its kind of embarrassing. I lost or had stolen all of my credit cards, ID, SSN card, work ID, insurance cards etc. Left everything turned on a couple of days hoping someone would buy smokes, a computer, gas or anything to confirm it was stolen and not lost. No luck, no activity on any of my accounts. I can't buy anything until my new cards get here. Hell, I'm refinancing my house and they won't even accept a check for the appraisal. So yeah, in 5-10 days I'll swap 02 sensors and buy the ALKY kit. It sucks not having debit/credit cards and all of my cards attached to my pay-pal are no good now too.

Thanks for all the info.

I think I'm getting it nailed down. Pulling timing seems to raise my 02 values and eliminate KR. I'm seeing about 780 on 02 at WOT.

Any of these numbers jump out at you? I know the IAC is high from what I've read. This was at idle with AC on and really hot out. I turned the AC off and the batt went to 13.1

just fyi that is a bad place for your scanner! should be up un the top right of your dash/instrument panel

Yes, I understand that is probably the best place for it to be viewed, but I don't like it there. Now that we have that out of the way, did you watch the video? Any comment on numbers?

Well, if you insist on keeping the Scan Master there, you are way better off getting a Powerlogger and logging your information. At least you won't drive into a tree at 80mph looking down at the console.

Take another point or two out of the timing until you get ZERO knock at 15lbs.

If you want the scanmaster out of site, put it out of site "AFTER" you've done your tuning.

Where its at is a recipe for disaster as it cannot be viewed when looking at engine knock.

IAC reading.. do it when temp is 160 df and no accessories running.

Racing the engine when its hot will also increase knock.

You'll feel really dumb if you crash the car because you where looking down. I put the scanmaster on top of the dash where its easy to see until i'm done.

HTH

I will take new placement under advisement, thanks. I'm probably better than most at dividing my attention while driving. Have been doing many more things at once than glancing at a scanmaster for the last 16 years while behind the wheel.

Yikes, famous LAST words:eek:

Search for the post of "places to mount scanmaster" Lots of good ideas, or should I say good SAFE ideas

I'll be the first to let you guys know and say "I told you so". Can we get past the placement now?
