Kind of a hi jack here....... but the funny thing about all of those old Tarzan movies was that they were all filmed down in Florida on the Ocklawaha river near Silver Springs/Ocala. Now Ms.turbofish38 used to have a job working with wild/exotic animals near that area and the old coot that owned the joint used to tell the story of how the movie studios hired him as the head animal wrangler and would bring in 100's of wild animals for extras. The story goes that most if not all of the monkeys(Cheetah is an Ape) were released into the wild because it was to expensive to capture them and take them back to where they belong. Over the years they did what monkeys do and pretty soon they over ran the area. The legend also goes on to say that you can still see some wild monkeys if you take a boat ride down the river. I used to canoe and kayak there and never saw one but when the sun goes down I swear I could hear them. Strange thing is that I used to live about an hour or so away from there and I still swear to this day that I heard monkeys making noise across the highway from my house when it started getting dark. I never heard a Tarzan yell but that was probably because Weismiller didn't live in the area.
I also read somewhere that an estimated 4,000 primates had escaped from their enclosures after hurricane Andrew hit south Florida in 1992. Maybe that was 4,000 exotic animals? Anyway it sounds like having a monkey(I'm thinking Hangover 2 Capuchun here) is common place in FL. How can you not be an eccentric living in FL without one?
