Had the car out Fri and was driving normally (like a reg. Joe). I pull away from a light and hear/feel a slight thunk, thought that was odd but continued on. Come to the next light about 1/8th of a mile away and go to pull away and nothing. Car barely moves when giving it a lot of gas. Got across the intersection and pulled to side of road. Had it towed home.

My diagnosis so far:

No forward gears , car only barely moves.

Reverse seems to work fine

In drive or fwd gears there is a humm coming from the trans (tc?)

Pulled trans line off and fluid comes out no problem.
T
rans is full, no leaks and doesn't appear discolored, no burnt smell or to have any metal on the stick.

Still have to pull the pan and see what it looks like down there.

Any ideas?

Also this was just recently rebuilt, has maybe 250 miles on it, new converter also.
And before anyone says it, I don't have a warranty on this trans or easy access to the builder (I'm in CA they are East Coast) I bought it from someone else who had it rebuilt and it had 0 miles.

Sounds like your low roller clutch is gone. Rule out input housing.....reverse works.

What happens in Low 1 ? Does it engage any better than OD? If it does.....then low roller is gone, If not, I think the forward clutch is toast.

I'd bet on the low roller, foward clutches don't go with a "clunk"

all forward gears do the same, barely pull the car forward, measured in inches not feet.
being it still works in reverse can I count out the tc?

what is the pressure in the forward gears?sounds like the forward drum blew out the retainer and spring assembly or the fwd piston install psi gage

don't know yet, don't have a gauge and can't find my ATC book
Lookining at a full rebuild aren't I?

If it won't pull in Manual Low, then the low roller clutch is OK. Your TC should not be affected. Chris is right. The problem is probably in the forward clutch.

Not a complete O/H but the unit needs to come out and apart.

It also could be..

Front planet broke, or stripped the splines. Other than that, it could be the pressure plate in the forward clutch broke and/or piston could have broken. I'll bet you find your problem between the forward clutch drum and the drive shell meaning front planet. Either way, you are gonna have metal in unit. Pull down , diagnois and repair by cleaning fully including flushing converter and cooler unless the front planet just broke right at the spline area on the front planet. If it broke at the planet, no big deal replace and move on. If it stripped the splines you will have metal in unit, gaurenteed.
Place to start anyway. :(
