Finally after 2 yrs. we're getting close to having proper shift points with a code OG. Original WOT was about 38-3900.so I started working on the gov. It looks like swiss cheese now. I ended up @ 5500 on the 1-2 & 4900 on 2-3. Not good yet.

So I shimmed the TV limit .035 to raise all shifts just a bit. Then I tried a stiffer gov. spring & took some more wt. off the gov. hopefully to keep the 1-2 the same & raise the 2-3, all I got was a lowered 1-2.

To the vb I shimmed the 2-3 spring about .080 & used the red 2-3 spring from a SK kit. Like I said, I'm getting there now I've got 54-5500 on 1-2 & same for the 2-3.

Part throttle moderate accel. 15mph on 1-2 & 25-29 on 2-3 40-45 on the 3-4.

Hopefully this will help someone out that doesn't have the luxury of a Perf. VB such as a GN or a MCSS vb.;)

This is almost the same as what I did to my OG valve body to make it shift correctly. Except I used a GN governor and played with the valve body to make 3rd come in at the right time at min and part throttle. WOT was shifting at 5400 in both 1-2 and 2-3. Keep up the good work Jim. :D

fool enough

Glad to hear that it can be done. I was beginning to think I was the only one fool enough to go through all the trouble to get a trans to shift @ the desired shift points. Did you at any time try cutting coils off the gov.spring? You probably had the VB at least a dozen times. Most people want a magic FIX to cure a shift point problem. 90 percent of the turbo owners would not even drop the VB.

Thanks!! No I never did cut the gov. spring, I went to the hardware store & found some that had the same wire dia. & no. of coils, didn't want to ruin a stocker. Ended up with the stock one anyway.

Had the VB off a few times mostly with the trans. out. Freshened it with new directs & wide band, then less than a thousand miles trashed the conv. so I did it all over again.

""You probably had the VB at least a dozen times. Most people want a magic FIX to cure a shift point problem.""

This is what trans modification is all about. :D This is the reason I got into automatics in the first place. Make it work like it should, even if it is not supposed to work like that. I think I had my valve body off at least 30 times in two months. I also kept the original governor spring and weights. I originally modified 3 different normal governers with my Dremel tool and finally went with the TR governor. Lots of pan gaskets wasted also.

I was wanting to try a GN gov but all the posts I've read about it they've said a generic vb wouldn't work with one , but I think I'm to the point where my gov is getting close to the wt. of a GN gov.;)

So I couldn't even imagine how much of a pain this would have been if I had not installed a drain plug.

Now if I could just cure the 4-3 bind up I have. 4th clutch just doesn't seem to be releasing quick enough.

I love to see this

Now you all know how we learn and discover things. Sometimes it can be very frustrating. But, once you got it you got it. The ONLY problem is one trans might react one way and do the SAME EXACT thing to another and it works different. But in the end, if you win, it is more than gratifing to see the results of your work, ain't it?

Good luck and this is how we all learn what we know.

Did some more tweaking

Tweaked it just a little more & ended up @ 6000 on both the 1-2 & 2-3. :D
