Need a recommendation for a decent registry cleaner. Free download or program you have to pay for doesn't matter. Just as long as it is a good one!

I use what used to be called Crap Cleaner. I think it's now known as C Cleaner... A google should do it. It was free.

I would suggest NOT messing with your registry. If you do, make sure you do a back up and be prepared to format and reload:wink:

IObit system care is free. I used it and got some faster response from my laptop.

I have heard good things about ccleaner, never tried it myself though. Using these tools on your registry should be treated the same as when you are logged into a unix system under root, sit on your hands and think very carefully before you touch anything. I am not one to use a point and shoot program to clean a registry. If there is a problem, I go in and tweak that particular issue until it's no longer a problem. In regedit right click any portion of the hive and export it before making any changes. If you have system restore enabled, make a restore point and export the registry. Just be careful that the cleaning program doesn't run over system restore.

I have a customer right now that can't install ANY windows updates because a former admin thought he knew what he was doing in t the registry. He automated the "fixing" of a part on the windows update client and pushed it out to every computer in the company. Then... he couldn't get anything to work so he deleted the entire script and any record of it every running on computers. Now, I had to go in and undo the changes he made and figure out what he broke. It just couldn't be done and pushing the new update client out doesn't correct the problem. Good times... helpdesk gets to rebuild every computer there. A 2B a year company should have had a better system in place for testing before rolling things out to production.

X2. This is one of the best and I've been using it for around 2 years now. Haven't had a problem since.

You should also do a search for superantispyware. It's a fee one and gets rid of trojans and tracking cookies. Great programs, both of them. I even sent the links to Ty when his puter had issues so you can ask him how well they work.
