Hi,
I have been letting my GN sit since August because I thought I had a HUGE motor knock. Yesterday I got off my duff and started the car for the first time in almost 60 days. Sure enough the noise was still there but I climbed under and took off the flywheel inspection cover and MAN!, intemittenly it sounds like someone is banging the converter drum with a ballpeen hammer. The converter bolts look tight. Is there anything else in this area that can make such a racket? While I had it up I changed my " Timing chain primer oil" (81 Miles). and sent out a sample to Blackstone Labs to check for bearing material. I am just wondering if I should go ahead and put in my PTS converter and trans to eliminate those components as the source of my KNOCK. Any suggestions as to what could be banging up by the converter? If you blip the throttle when the revs drop back to idle is when the knock or baning starts. TIA.

I have my fingers crossed that maybe it's the trans and not the engine.

sounds like it could be a cracked flywheel .. check right around where it bolts up to the crank .........
