I’ve used the search feature and really have not found what I’m looking for. The wife totaled her 86 Ttype back in Aug and I’m looking to install the complete drive train in an 85 roller. Is there a detail write up any where that speaks to this total conversion? Wiring harness, dash wiring, fuel lines, brakes, etc, etc, etc????

Hi Scott,

You might be able to ask Conrad (alphaenvirmgt). He converted his 84 to the 86/87 setup and is in the Charlotte, NC area.

Converting

It's not that bad.
Take motor out of the 87 car.
Wiring harness unplugs from fuse block at firewall and passenger side on firewall under wheel well. There is a metal half moon shaped bracket holding the wiring harness at firewall. 3 screws I think. (this part you will have to wrestle with a bit) Unplug ECM and pull through. Get the harness completely unplugged and loose. Do the same to the 85 roller. I would replace heater core or evap core if you plan to keep the A/C and heater. Remove the power steering pump, fan shroud, A/C lines from the 85. Install 87 harness in the 85. Set motor in and everything is pretty straight forward untill you get to the power steering. It seems overwelming but it's not that bad. NEED TO KNOW WHAT BRAKE SYSTEM YOU HAVE ON THE 85. Hydroboost or vacuum? I would just keep the same. Fuel lines bolt right up. You will have to put an inline fuel filter in the back around the tank. Very easy. Do you have digital climate control in he 85? That's all I can think of know. Ask me anything. Michael

Why do you say change the evap core?
I'm also curious why you ask if he has the electronic climate control? Does that change things?

Ditto??

The heater/AC box on the 86 was crushed so non of that can be used. I have a vac brake system on the 86 that I may use as well.

Conversion

I would say since your in there I would change the 22 year old evap core and heater core. The digital climate harness is different than the slide a/c controls. The vac system you have will be fine to leave in there. Michael
