Cost of a 9 second capable TH-400 in a heavy car?

I have seen $800 and $3000 transmissions do it. There is risk/reward involved in what level of transmission you buy. I would budget $2500 for the whole thing.. maybe $1200-1500 for a trans and $900 for a converter, then shifter etc.

Converter cost is the same as any. Some will work for as low as $600, but they may not be ideal for a combo. Seems like the best converters are in the $900+ range - like a PTC.

If you're 2004r is working good, it could mean just a converter change for you in that trans.

Based on your signature, you are no where near that 9sec now.. do you have something big coming? It really is a huge jump to start thinking about a 9 sec converter from the 11's or even high 10s.

Husek is the man, but I don't think that he touches the TH-400.

I am looking to continue building and looking for more hopefully and ultimately getting into the 9ns weather it be with a V6 or an LS I am never going to stop.

I understand that at this moment I don't need 9 second capable anything but buying twice on purpose is just dumb.
I have wasted more money buying the same things twice than over building. So from now on over building is the only way for me to go.

asking for comparison sake VS a 200-4R

Very good - I was just curious because you may or may not have a long way to go on many other things besides the trans... suspension etc etc...

I've run many low 10's on my current 2004r setup and have about $2500 including converter but not driveshaft. I'm confident it'll get me into the 9s, maybe in the very next step out this spring.

To do a good TH400 it is not cheap as one may think. I'm sure someone could hack together one and make it last for a while but why take the chance. They need special attention just like anything else. I spend hours cleaning and stoning the valve body face of the case to get and acceptable seal before I can even think of starting the rebuilding process. The pumps often need to be resurfaced and gears fitted. And the list goes on and on. But if its done right they will hold up really well.

Do you mind shifting it manually? I've been told you'll be manually shifting it if you go TH400. If I'm wrong, please correct me. That is the only reason why I didn't go TH400.
