Bought a engine/trans off of CL a couple months ago. The engine ran fine but the guy had no clue about the engine. He told me it had Kenny Bell internals but after some cleaning/checking its a stock engine with Kenny Bell valve covers. The Turbo is bigger than stock, the injectors are not stock and the chip is unknown but does say Delco on it. Could you please help me ID these parts so I know what I have. Thanks, Pete

hmmm.. KB stuff .. KB has been gone for a while.. those inj could be 30's to.. maybe thats why it has a stock chip.

OK, first off that turbo is NOT stock. Look at the distance between the wheel and the outer lip. The wheel is larger than stock.

Most likely a ta49 or ta61 look under the outlet of the compressor housing, most likely the model is scribed with the model number, right where the turbo mates up to the intercooler.

Here is what it looks like with the inlet bell on.. Turbocharger Guide

Those injectors are not 42 / 009s have the green stripe towards the top.

Just look the injectors over and find the numbers on them, use the search feature and punch in the number. I bet they are 37# injectors.

Turn the chip over, what does the other side show? Could be a reburned stock chip.
BW :)

Thanks for the help.... I will look for the injector numbers, the turbo is not stock...(stock is puny compared side by side with inlet bell) Not sure about the chip, it doesn't have anything on the back and it's in a Reman ECM.

BBKJ is the stock recall chip. The injectors are most likely Lucas 30#. Turbo most likely TA49

That would make sense, 30's and a stock chip would work fine, but not that good with the larger turbo.

So whatcha going to do with this engine?

30s worked fine with a 44 turbo at the time.. Melissa's Limited had them in it.. high 11s.. remember back in the day there wasn't much to do to our cars. Inj were not on a lot of stock car guys lists. We just push the hell out of the stock junk  Dammm things have changed a lot since then !! Guess thats progress

Thanks for all the info. The engine will be going into the 87 Grand National that I bought in April off of Racingjunk. The GN came with the original engine with every piston melted, no torque converter and a beat up trans. Car was drag raced some where in Mich. many years ago and has very little rust and 50k miles. Currently the car is being Semi-Frame off (if there is such a thing) restored. Since the chassis painting is done, its easier to put the engine in with the nose off the car. Now I will be getting some bigger injectors (60 or 42''s) and figuring out the Ultra chip that came with the car. Thanks again for the help. RLTW Pete

I would pitch that ultra chip, buy one set of injectors and be done with it.

If your on a tight budget, 009 42.5 injectors used usually go for 100 - 125

I think Mike Licht had the 60s for 35.00 each on sale last month.

Ive seen a few 6 pack nitrous kits for the turbo buicks, that would make any stock gn run 11s

Now we have ethanol in our gas, and methanol to keep things just right :)
