Crazy Issues

The stator is a "bladed" piece in the converter that is held from rotation in one direction by the sprag. The sprag is a "one way valve" that allows rotation in one direction but not the other. The fluid is directed around by the stator to make the other side of the converter to out power into the transmission. I'm sure someone else can explain it better and I know YouTube has videos if you search.

What tool do you use to install the center support

This ?
Or this?

The top one is a low/reverse and there is a tool.
The lower one is the support. I just lined up the holes so the bolts would go in. Grease it up with lube and slide it in. Might take so wiggle to get the rings into the direct drum.

Second picture though there was a shaft tool to help with alignment

I guess there could be a tool. GM has tools for a lot of stuff. I'll look in the atsg book when I get home. I just greased the rings and stuck the washer on with some assembly grease and slid it in there and lined up the bolt holes under the valvebody. Then air checked it a couple times to make sure it worked then checked the clearance with a caliper with a depth rod.
