great example of how the US does business, only thing I am in aww of is how we get to troll the planet murdering w/o consequence. my favorite parts are the laughs and the jokes about the missed hits and off shots.................o and the cursing in a mics at their targets from miles away looking through a super scope makes them look really tough. they have guns and a single rpg oOoOo no, what ever will we do against guys with sandals and guns and tshirts.

I will admit that I dont have some of the info that our troops may have to distinguish the enemy from the inocent civilians , but I pretty much agree with you that many inocent civilians are getting murdered in this type of engagement !!
Why dont we use this type of technology where we could use it best and feel good about it , along our borders!! Mike

Ok, we have heavily armed people, one with an RPG that could easily kill many Americans AND destroy a multi-million dollar helicopter. What should we do, run away and allow them the chance to take out our military sons and daughers at a later date? I have a 20 year old son defending our country.......if it comes down to them or my son, I don't think you need to ask my opinion.

Obviously a few people in this thread have spent no time in the military under combat conditions. As Shane said, war is hell, war is ugly, innocent people get killed (usually not intentionally).

At least we have better, more accurate weapons than we had in WWII. Any of you bleeding hearts ever study the history of WWII, carpet bombing, etc.

There is no such thing as a "clean" war. chit happens, people die. There's no getting around it. When lead starts flying you fire back, as quickly and violently as you can muster to save your own skin, and hopefully save the skin of future targets.

I haven't veiwed this particular video, but have seen litterally hundreds of other Apache attack vids. The targets were either in the position to fire on friendlies, or were moving into better position to do so.

If there's somebody in your sights that are carrying weapons, and they're not friendlies, they ARE targets of opportunity, period.

I'm sorry. I normally I have a particularly unique point of view as I lived at Rustamiyah in 05, worked the same muhalla (neighborhood) that bushmaster is in, called for CCA (close combat attack) from apaches and kiowas in similar situations. I was also in Baghdad again for half of 06 and all of 07. I was there when crazyhorse was flying along with shark and big gun. I was on the ground in the same streets and now am in school to fly the very same birds.

First off war is hell. People die that aren't supposed to and people live that are responsible for others deaths. It is a unique atmosphere that is easy to sharp shoot from afar. I have respect for any man or woman that puts their life on the line and makes life and death decisions with limited information and often under fire. Secondly, even though this is the new generation FLIR (forward looking infared) it is still tough to obtain PID (positive ID) from so far away but at 2:08 in the video you clearly see two guys walking with ak's in hand (guy with horizontal striped shirt and the guy next to him). This is FAIR GAME. Iraqis are allowed to have one ak per household for protection but once they go out on the street, that is grounds for engagement. Also when the guy peaks around the corner, I can't tell if he has an RPG from that shot, but when Bushmaster arrives for BDA (battle damage assessment) you can hear that one person states there looks to be an RPG under one of the bodies. Not enough for you? Later in the vid they ask if the RPG is live or not. The soldier says it looks like it's still live. That means he had EYES ON AN RPG! The van with the people? That may have been civilians trying to help someone, but you don't allow people to come into an area and take someone or weapons (not saying they did). I'll admit that opening up on the van wasn't the best call, but they called to higher and got the green light prior. When they talk about the children hurt at the site, yes that is very tragic. I hate to hear stuff like that, but this is war. You want to know a fun fact? While I was there, the insurgents packed an 10yr old boy's wheelchair full of explosives and wheeled him into a voting site. Kaboom. We as Americans go through a painstaking process to prevent civilian casualties. More than any army in the world. Do civilians still get killed? Absolutely. It is a war zone. I hate it as much as anyone else, but if I had PID on a guy with an AK, I would light him up and anyone that I deemed was part of his group. This is war and it is ugly.

p.s. at one point we had authority to detain anyone with a video camera in Sadr city/ New Baghdad. If they did not comply we were authorized to use deadly force. Why? Because insurgents film everything. We were just as likely to draw down on a person with a camera as a person with an ak.

My apologies' for my vocabulary. After living in my hole so long it can be hard to adapt. I will now attempt to express myself with less vernacular.

I felt a great feeling of pleasure watching the gentlemen with the AK47's and the RPG get blown to pieces by my military. If you watch closely one of them even gets cut in half. Knowing that it was the enemy and not my fellow Americans makes me smile.

When the van came along and they tried picking up the bodies and weapons and once again were blown to pieces, well that just tickled me all over again.

Then when the infantry came in and discover the guns and RPG shells under the dead bodies let me know that it was a job well done.

Although when one of the soldiers found a wounded little girl with a stomach wound and called for an EVAC it made me sad. If they did the job correctly the first time we wouldn't have to waste the extra fuel. It can't be cheap fueling one of those choppers.
