This just keeps getting better and better. I took the #5 injector out and tested it with a can of carb cleaner, some vacuum hose, and applied 12v. The injector does flow, so now I have spark, compression, air, and fuel but it is still dead on that cylinder.
The coil may be on the way out and flow without fuel pressure on it may occur.
Bench test with high psi would tell the tale.

Yes, I used a noid light and it tested good, The injector itself now seems to work, I have compression, and I have spark. Just to be on the safe side I replaced the spark plug and wire and also checked with a test light to make sure it was picking up the spark.
It's all very confusing to me having everything check out as good, but no bang.

Instead of a spray pattern it did seem to just run out, but I figured it was because it wasn't under pressure.
I guess I'll have to see how it runs after I finally get the new injectors installed.

I had all the same symptoms you have, car ran and idled fine, missed under load. I bought injectors and injector harness, changed coil and module. I had great compression and everything looked great under the valve cover. Nothing broken or loose. #5 cylinder had a wiped cam lobe!

Wonderful, it looks like this may be getting parked for quite a while.
Are the #5 cam lobes a known problem with the GN's?

Usually its cylinder #3. Pull the valve cover and start it. You will know right away if you have a wiped lobe. One of the rockers will barely move compared to the others. I f does not move might as well pull the engine.. Put a vacuum gauge on it? Is this engine stock? Flat tappet cam?

Cam lobe loss may well not get noisy until the amt of preload on the lifter is eaten off the lobe and lifter face....
Should that be the case, this: " I f does not move might as well pull the engine".

Yes, it is a stock engine with about 107,000 miles on it.
The engine has to be pulled out just to change the cam?

would be a good idea as the material loss from the lobe would likely have circulated thru the eng.......................throw the injectors on it go from there, sounds like you already have a set coming...hopefully thats it

I'm hoping it's the injectors, if not I don't have the room, knowledge or equipment to pull the engine and rebuild it. I can only imagine the cost to have someone do it for me where most mechanics around me are already closing in on $200/hr. for labor. Plus, there is no one close to me that I would even trust to do anything beyond putting air in the tires or an oil change on an old POS that I don't care about, which they would probably screw up anyway.
