SignUp Now!Nothing hard about it if the correct size torx drive is used. Its A T27 and an impact driver should be used. The torx bolts can be replaced with hex head bolts if wanted. I like to verify zero runout in a lathe after installation of the stator support.Taking just the stator support out/off from pump is hARD to do. The torx screws are on there and like to strip b4 loosening.
For hte price a decent shop would charge to swap it,I would not take a chance, you can mess things up REAL bad and destroy the whole trans if its done incorrectlyIs this some thing that can be done at home by a diy. Or do you have to take something like this to the trans shop? If so what is a ballpark price?
It is a lockup style with that input shaft,
Hi Larry,
Is there another style input shaft for 2004R? I don't think I have ever seen one.
and that he might want to get someone in the know to do it. Sorry if i missled anyone.

No there isn't another style, but as you said:
Actually, there is another style input shaft. I have one and the GM converter from a 2004R my brother in law picked up from a guy out of Colorado. It was supposedly a Pike's Peak racer and it is like the later model 4L60E converter with the large Oring behind the splines. I will take pics tomorrow and post them. One and only one I have seen in 22 years. Torque converter is a GM build with the watermarks on it and all.
Were the Input Shafts from 2004R's used with Diesel engines any different? I know the Converters were, internal Poppet valves to release TCC on decelleration/torque reversal.
Watermarks??
I had never seen a 2004R behind a diesel, just the 700 so I am not sure. Water Marks are what GM called the little paint splotches they marked items with. If I remember correctly, this converter had yellow and light red maybe. It has been in my storage for over 2 years now. I will get some pics tonight and post them up.

The input that I have seen with the o-ring behind the slines is from a BMW. I do have a couple of them when the BMW OD Is used.
