Eric:

Not sure why you're struggling with this so much - the concepts are fairly simple. Underlying it is the simplest concept of all. Don't steal someone else's property.

Nonetheless, GM does a lot (MUCH more than MoPar or Ford BTW) to support the hobby. And, that's precisely why for most classic GM cars you can buy repro EVERYTHING (including COMPLETE Camaro bodies) Try finding repro parts for say a 69 Cougar, or 55 Chrysler C300. Ain't gonna happen.

GM has a trademark licensing program that:

A) Supports the market needs of the hobbyist
B) Frees GM from the need to manufacture low volume restoration parts
C) While demanding/rigorous, is fair and reasonable.

Tom I think you're the one who needs to get a grasp of reality. We aint talking T-shirts and hats here. I'm well aware of how GM license program works. Thats why I said it sucks big time. In respects to this thread and TR parts in general name one part,NAME ONE TR SPECIFIC PART that GM has a grasp of in relation to your GM is god and is the hobbyists best friend. I'll give you the answer to that one. THERE AREN'T ANY. We aint talking 57 Chevys or GTOs here. So yes in a way the TR is the same as a Cougar or C300. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for you or the aftermarket to meet the needs of the Buick TR community. And I dont think you should hold yours waiting for GM to address the same problem.

I'm Sure You're Aware...

Eric:

I'm sure that you're well aware of the "disco" parts lists that GM sends to all licensees? If not, GM sends a HUGE comprehensive list of all soon to be discontinued parts to their licensees. Some of these are TR parts.

GM is actively looking for vendors to pick up the low volume (TR parts are LOW volume relative to GM) parts to serve the restoration hobbyist. In the case of the headlamp bezels I've heard GM will loan out the factory tooling too....

That no one has chosen to do so for the TR not GM's fault - though I'm sure YearOne or Original Parts Group will soon be on board with some TR parts (just like they do for late model Malibu and Monte)

Do you think GM is somehow obligated to supply TR parts forever? Or, do you think that GM should abandon their trademark and property rights and let the aftermarket freely do what they want?

Frankly I'm not really sure exactly what you think - I haven't heard a truly cohesive, lucid thing from you in this entire discussion.

Tom I'll be calling you tomorrow to find out how to get these Molds.

wow, did my thread start some crap...woops. surely wasnt my intention. at any rate, i already know, that if gbodyparts is watching, theyll find some way to remanufacture those headlight bezels... just like i thought.

Eric - In the real world, intellectual property rights are a serious legal matter. As a GM licensee that pays over $20K per year for the right to use GM trademarks - it sucks to see someone skirt the law. Apparently you see no problem in someone who steals the property of another? I've no intention of ratting out the dude, but rest assured when GM discovers him (and they WILL - they have EXTENSIVE resources dedicated to ferreting out unlicensed products) he's going to end up in court.

Aftermarket Look AT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to start any crap, just asking a question that has bugged me for a while and I have brought up before. If GM is SO WILLING to hand over the equipment to make parts, why doesn't the big aftermarket like classic or year one take advantage of this? You look at the online year one catalog and most the stuff for gbodies is nothing but crate motors, aftermarket carbs, etc. There are only going to be so many cars getting parted out until there aren't any left. The g body, not just the beloved TR, is extremly popular car, not just where I live, but everywhere. I neglected buying a 85 monte ss just for the reason it had rust from sitting, 500 bucks. 82 Cutlass with t-tops, 150 bucks. 87 v8 regaL, 300 bucks. THese cars will probably end up raced in the junkyard 500 because parts are so hard to find. My friend wants a regal but is buying a mustang because he sees the trouble I'm having finding parts for my buick. Whoever starts making all the quarter panels, door shells, full floors, door sills, blackout trims, etc. will turn a HUGE profit.

They are at the 20 year mark & we are working on getting parts built.
We just finished the Moon roof headliners. I have a new rear package tray sitting in my office which is 100% correct. We have t-top locking & non locking plastic. The plastic under the t-top visors. Power seat track plastic & alot of other items that are going to be done in January.Yes a real horn ring is being built as well.
We had the T-type interior seats rebuilt over a year ago. I have Limited seats being built as well & that is a very small market.

We have sold over 200 Stainless T-top kits in 3 years.we were selling hard top roof like crazy before this.

Heater coolant lines for 87 are built & every engine part made can be rebuilt.

Body panels are out there as well. Made in Taiwan or China but they are out there.Floor Pans are out there & so are a few other parts you mentioned. Doors,Trunk lids & hoods I'm thinking will probablly be picked up by Good Mark.

We already paid to have fiberglass molds made for more exact bumper fillers & bumpers.

I here alot of people stating nothing is being done for these cars but actually there is at only the 20 year mark.
Gbodies are very popular right now & will continue to be. Not too many people can go out & buy a 70 chevelle SS or a GTO.
These are 1 of the few cars you can buy cheap & put $ into with out breaking your bank account.

We have alot more items we are trying to get built. We couldn't have done it with out the customers & your continued support will allow us to keep building new & better items to keep these cars on the road.
We do not part cars that we would have not thought twice about 2 years ago.We are saving alot more cars.

After talking to Tom I never did hear how GM lends out the molds.

Im really glad g body parts is soo proactive in helping our cars stay alive after 20 years.. especially with all the morons and thugs destroying our cars every day. im soo worried that our cars are going to fade away into nothingness like amc's or whatever. I wish we had the huge amount of resources the malibus, mustangs, corvettes, barracudas and chevelles have. life would be soo much easier. ahh well. one day i guess.

You can try this place. My mom used to work for them a long time ago, and of course, when she first got the job, it was the very first thing i looked for.
