I was watching the following auction last night and was going to place a bid on this Autometer Vac/boost gauge to replace my Boost only gauge.
Autometer boost gauge

About 8 minutes before the end of the auction, I looked at the picture and decided I didn't want the gauge because the guy is selling the gauge because it's not reading correctly not because it isn't stock looking.
I think the guage is messed up because it isn't hooked up to anything and it's reading 10 in/hg of vac.

Do you agree with my reasoning??

AutoMeters have air cores, I believe. My AutoMeter tach would stay at like 1000 RPMs with the engine off. When I would start the car, the tach would resets itself, and go to engine speed. Although Im not certian about the boost/vac gauges, but it could be similar.

Just my .02

Funny you should ask...I just ordered the same gauge last week and came in this morning.

Guess what...mine reads ZERO, with nothing attached! I'd say you made the right choice.

Now I'm worried, I hope mine doesn't end up like that. :(

The vacuum/boost gauge in my SRT-4 (from the factory) is an Autometer. It always reads zero with the engine off. I realize it's a different model than the one in question. I don't think you'll have any problems.

If its a manual gauge, then it should be reading 0 when the engine is off as there is no vac and no boost. Never heard of a manual gauge reading anything else when the key is off or when its disconnected.

yes you did the right thing, I've pegged one of my autometer boost gauges and not it no longer sits at zero even when its on the work bench. I hooked up another known good boost gauge also from autometer and the pegged one that doesnt read zero gave me a higher reading than the other (false reading0

buy a new one or one that sits at zero.
