Anyone watching the special series on China and the Global Economy?

A lot of talk about Buick. Still the #1 selling car in China! (More Buicks sold there recently than ALL the Buicks sold in US...EVER!

They LOOOOOOVE Black Buicks!

Need some cash? Sell your GN to CHINA!!

The new Chinese Riviera is actually pretty badazz!

The end of the world is in sight

10:00 PM EST

Just started again, I think part III.....Discovery channel
Yesterday was the beginning of the Buick stuff.
Don't know if they are still talking bout it or not?

This is a really interesting show for sure.
I will never complain about BA traffic after seeing that.

here as well, interesting story, still hard to watch howdy dowdy (Ted Kopple) though...man what an ugly mug

Chinese like buicks? In the news this week they report that GM might want to sell a brand for cash to see them through bad times. They mentioned buick , hummer and saturn. It would be sad to see buick leave GM.Buick was the brand that started GM.But as the CEO's like to say, everythings for sale at the right price.GM claims to have plenty of cash so maybe a sale won't happen.

I heard gm has a 1,000,000,000 price tag on hummer:eek: Saturn is next

Chinese like to copy things. Maybe they would copy us a few 455 stage 1's and a few turbo 231's just to keep the fleet mile per gal up.Hope they don't leave out some important stuff like they've been known to do.

Chinese like to copy things.

My uncle had his landscape done on his new house several years ago with trees, lights, brick & block work, rod iron gates etc. Looks awesome! The Chinese guy up the street copied my uncle's yard to the tee. I just don't get it. It's like WTF how do you feel good about yourself knowing you just copied the guy down the street.

I didn't see the show but I thought I'd just mention that over in China they tax the cars by engine size and HP. You have to be a F'n millionaire to run a GN. I have a lot of the Shanghai's(GM of China more or less) shop manuals on CD here at work. For example when in 1998 they started making the Century. Over here we got the 3100 Chevy V-6 and 3800 Buick V-6. Over there they got a smaller bore and stroke 2500 Chevy V-6. Yep thats right. The old 60 degree V-6 was sold in a smaller displacement than the original 2.8 sold here. I'll try and dig up some more. To bad I can't hook up with a supplier over there. I've found all types of neat goodies I'd like to sell for the Century/Regal and Venture/Terraza mini vans over here.

Go to Official Chevrolet Site | 2008 Cars, SUV's, and Trucks | Chevy and click on GM World Sites at the bottom of the homepage. Than click on China to see what they sell over there as far as Corvette and trucks go. I found it interesting anyway.

I think what you'll see eventually with Buick is that it will be all China built models. Much like the GTO and current G8 being built in Oz. I like the China version of the LaCrosse better than ours. And the upcoming replacement for the Lucerne is better too.

If you want power, seems the GN is the best choice. I mean, it's underrated from the factory....small displacement, and then add a few mods.

I don't see you point on that one. I'm thinking the opposite.

It's been all China for a while I thought?

Ford and GM have all the plants they need over there. I don't think much is imported to China. Did you watch any of the show?

Is your uncle religious? If he is tell him to put up some Christian stuff. I seriously doubt the Chinese dude will copy him anymore.

That little 2500 v-6 probably feels pretty strong to them.A guy could probably make a liveing over there just changing headgaskets on v-6 chevy engines. There was a energy story in weekend news about China embraceing methanol.Their flex fuel engines use methanol or blends.Give methanol cars free pass on some toll roads.Methanol wouldn't compete with food supply. It seams the rest of the world is looking ahead while we're playing video games. HAHAHA!

That would be funny! He doesn't care anymore all the neighbors give the Chinese guy a ration of sh!t all the time or copy him when he does stuff just to push buttons. It's pretty funny. ;)

Basically a function of eastern thought. The chinese are taught from birth to denounce individualism for a greater concern for the group. American's are taught to celebrate individual accomplishments and to set themselves apart from the "crowd", in contrast in China, any expression of the individual to set themselves apart is discouraged. As China and it's citizens become more a part of the world community and the benefits of capitalism are felt, we will see this cultural trend change. Already in China the latest generation of young people is beginning to adopt our ways of individual expression.

I was seated beside a girl for China throughout alot of grad school. She was an amazing person, the part that amazed me the most was when her Grandfather passed away. We were only about a month from graduation and she left to be with her family. No concern whatsoever about herself and the rest of her life, just focused on how she could get home to help. I was really taken back by her unselfishness.

Your right... very different culture, my wife is Thai. She doesn't understand our culture either. Family values are way different, they pride themselves on being an intergral part of society. She see's our culture as individuals trying to succeed in total excess at the expense of others. Unfortunately she is right to an extent, I see the exploiters of capitalism eating their own.

Ah-So! Now I see why most Asians are rude. Would it hurt to learn some manners while you are here?
