I had the same problem , I ended up just having to take my car to the bodyshop.. I think its easier to adjust them with the fenders off....

When you latch the door, is the sound two-step like cu-lick or just one click? The striker may be so far in the latch is not fully engaging on it. Perhaps move the striker outward 1/2 the distance of the current gap and see what happens. Use masking tape on the edges of the striker and the door jamb and make alignment marks to remember what you have done. From the photo, it looks like the door is more out at the bottom than the top. You may have to rotate the door inward at the bottom on the hinge point of the door. That alone could throw off the striker alignment since you are kinda engaging the latch downward onto the striker.

I'd take it down to a shop and see what they say. Can't imagine they would want much to just adjust it.

It looks like the door is twisted. Latch it with a screw driver, rest the door against the striker, push in on the bottom of the door with your leg and pull out on the top. This will also make the back of the door go up a hair, it was probably dragging the striker and the body line don't line up, right?

If you haven't already, put the glass in the door cavity when adjusting the door, you don't have to hook it up, but the weight of the glass will change the horizontal alignment.

when i get out of work im going to try to pull the top out and push the bottom in a little and check for a double click sound on the striker make sure its latching. I dont know if it matters i dont have the oem type of strikers on the car. I have the motormite (help) type.

How does the door fit at the fender? You might have it in too far at the front. Also check the striker position from front to back...you might need to put some shims in or take some out. This will affect how the door fits as well. I had to shim my strikers out almost 3/8 of an inch to make them contact the latch properly. I know it's a little late now, but, next time fit ALL the sheet metal while it is in primer...including the doors. It reduces the risk of chipping or scratching your nice new paint...and it is alot easier to fix primer than it is to fix the finish paint. Before you fit the fenders, drill 1/8 inch holes through the hinges and into the body/door. This will allow you to get the door positioned in the same spot after you paint it. Of course, there will always be final adjustments to be made later to get all the gaps right. And don't be afraid to really twist on the door...you may have to to get it to fit right. HTH---Keith

good idea on the 1/8 holes trick. im a newbie painter i didnt even think of that. i remember that it was shimmed out about 3/8. it is much less then that now. It felt latched but ill try putting a couple more washers in there. thanks for the advice. I never got a chance to work on the car today. Hopefully tomorrow is a nice day out.

door

I would remove the striker. then confirm the door will shut all the way check body lines for proper alignment(gap between door and quarter) it looks from the picture the bottom hinge needs to be tilted in a little so the distance is the same top to bottom if your striker is in all the way it's in to far and is not double latching might have to shim the bottom of fender to pull it down if it won't line up buy pushing it in. when the bottom of the door aligns with the rocker the full length and the gap is the same will be easier to see were you are at.
